Hunt, Gather, Parent

I am a mom of two, trying my best to use as little as possible while still providing a fulfilled life for my kiddos. I recently started reading Hunt, Gather, Parent and finally feel justified in my request to family to absolutely stop buying crappy plastic toys for my kids.

I’ve been judged hard for the last five years and I consistently remind folks that we prefer to have less because the kids are very creative and find and build things to play with. Now I have a neutral book I can recommend to siblings and cousins that touch on how the toy industry came about and how a household full of tons of plastic garbage can actually harm children’s development. An easy read that isn’t too preachy, like I’ve been accused of :) def recommend to fellow parents.

Jelly fish

we’re planning to snorkel Cabo Pulmo and just heard about jelly fish being active. is this a thing? has anyone snorkeled there recently and gotten stung? bringing children and a bit nervous. thank you!

edit: I ended up getting stung in the Buena Vista area, felt like a bee sting and wasn’t too bad. It was right after I posted this, so I nearly called the snorkeling tour. we decided to just go and see, I am so glad we did! We chatted with the guide and the tour company, trusted their opinion. stuck our kiddos in wet suits and went with it. it was great!

Disability discharge

Hello,

Has anyone had their loans discharged for CPTSD? I was diagnosed in 2018 after losing my son and almost dying myself. I’ve been on meds / getting mental health support since but kind of realizing this experience had a permanent impact on mental and physical health. I still work 20 hours a week and have tried increasing but my brain stops working (cognitive limitations, including word finding).

I had 9 years towards PSLF when I ended up having to leave my job and I really want to work and kept thinking I’d return to full-time at my government job… but realizing this likely won’t happen and I’m bummed. I do want to work and money is tight with the new loan payments and I want to see if disability discharge is an option. I would continue to work 20ish hours a week. I don’t want to stop working. My current job doesn’t qualify for PSLF but is a good job and I’m unsure if I can work this job while also getting disability discharge (I’m a social worker).

Thank you and please be kind, I’m just exploring options and this is hard to ask.
