Are Elecom mice garbage now or did I get unlucky?

A switch finally gave out on the EX-G I've had for about 11 years and the replacement is defective to the point of unusable. The ball barely fits in place and snags as a result, one of the bearings has serious resistance making it also mess with the movement of the ball, and the sensor is faulty.

Is it worth trying a replacement, or should I look for a different brand?

Higer latency on full fibre than ADSL.

For years we had 14ms ping in speedtests over ADSL, now we've been forced into swtiching to full fibre we have 15-16ms. I know it's marginal, but does anyone have any idea why, and how, fibre optic cable apparently has higher latency than copper?

I'm disabled and rely on gaming for my sanity quite a bit, it was grossly inconvenient to do the switch (and frankly grueling), they made a cock of some aspects of it - some still ongoing, and it being worse at the end of it makes us want to look elsewhere.
We've been Plusnet customers for over a decade and they've been great up until now, that's why I'm asking here if anyone has any suggestions for a fix or at least explination as to why latency has gone up.

I've tried two routers; The plusnet one and a third party one that is descended from the ADSL one, (familiar with setup etc). Router is connected to ONT via CAT7, also tried CAT5e it came with. I've also tried manually setting DNS on both the router and devices.

If anyone has any suggestions they'd be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
