How to find mentor as a law student?
I’m a 3rd year law student at a public university, I wish to become an attorney specialising in labour law disputes, Tech and IT law as well as Banking and Finance.
I am looking for a mentor who is willing to teach me the basics of applying the law into real practice, someone who can challenge my knowledge and push me into gaining practical skills which I can use in the real world. I have LinkedIn and connect with such lawyers however I am unaware on how to approach them without sounding desperate and looking like I’m seeking handouts. I would like to improve my drafting skills as drafting documents is a huge part of the laws i’m specialising in as well as any other skill that would be useful to me.
A bit of background about myself I have a 70% overall average in my studies, I have completed 4 online simulations/certificates on the industries I would like to specialise in. I am a tutor in my institution and have participated in all moot court competitions hosted by my university since last year. I also use LinkedIn, news24 and De Rebus to stay informed about current laws within the sectors I’m interesting in.
Any help or guidance would be very helpful.
