Microscopy Treasure Hunt
In the slide is a microscopy of Alium cepa roots (Onion). We looked at it for a scientific stream with optical miscope.
Since we are close to the RAM (Root Apical Meristem) the cells are small, since they're newborns. The dark spot in the middle is the nucleus, containing the chromosomes (they're called like this because they absorb dye really well, and they become easily visible, the words come from the Ancient Greek and means colored bodies), most of them are in the Chromatin form: they're relaxed and in active transcription.
Depending on the phase of the cell cycle the chromatin can be found in different states, relaxed or compacted. The most compacted state is the metaphasic chromosome, the super famous X-shape we all think about when we hear "chromosome".
At least one nucleus in the picture is preparing to enter in the metaphase and the chromosomes bodies start being visible: can you spot it??
