We Won! 120-80!

BOG - Bice, was instrumental on getting the ball I50 & kept getting cleaner as the game went on, probably will come back in next week if they decide to drop Kyle or someone from the back line

Next Best lot

Cootee: was elite in the mid! I’d love he gets a game instead of Hanily or Warner next week (but with Paps & Logan probably back in we will see)

Melican: was great down back, lost some 1v1’s but when his opponent was 10cm+ taller it’s hard to compete, but his intercept work and pressure was elite

Datolli: 3 Goals, probably his best full 4qtr game in a long time, he may have a chance if they want him in as a sml fwd if Papley can’t get up

Very Good Games lot:

Bowman: Best game he has had I feel! Was great rebounding of D50, he is behind a lot of great HBF’s for a debut, but he definitely could get a debut if we rest players for the last couple of games of the year

Phillipou: 3 Goals, and worked high up the ground, if Datolli wasn’t a touch better this game I would say he gets the nod for a debut, he still might!

Good Games:

Rosas: the worst of the 3 sml fwds, but worst definitely doesn’t mean bad, 22 disposals and created a lot of excitement going I50, may get a call up, but no scoreboard impact may hurt him

Will Green: 2nd game back and a better performance, was going to be tough taking 30kg extra weight that is Jarrod Witt’s, but did his role

Snell: was quiet 1st quarter he was to far off trying to play free intercept work, after that he put his body on the line and worked hard, probably no debit next week, but still a solid game none the less

All in all, Bice,Cootee, Datolli, Melican will put pressure on spots, and I expect 1-2 to get a call back next week after Hanily & Co.Warners game was average

VFL Post Match Thread

We Dominated Sandringham 172-38

BOG: Roberts - Dominated the first 3 Quarters where they kind of lets him rest most of the 4th, he is instantly back in next week

Basically everyone had a massive game (besides the defenders so not doing best to worst for most)

Cootee - First half was racking them up but was messy, cleaned up after half time and was rewarded with some goals, worked hard all day and great to see him find elite form again

Co.Warner - another easy 30&3+ for him, wasn’t the reason we won, but worked well running up and down the field being the link up player

Hanily - 2 goals and working all over the field all day, wasn’t great to see that he has improved his tank, will be interesting if Hanily gets in next week or they go for a more pure small in Jevan

McClean - 6 goals, and did alright as a 2nd ruck, he’s a straight swap for Ladhams/Amartey if we take out 1 or both

Phillipou - 5 goals, pressure non stop in the fwd, I hope he gets a debut because honestly, I’d love to see if he performs better than his brother for stkilda haha

Datolli - snagged a beauty from 55, tried to do it again in the 4th and missed it (and was very selfish as all 3 fwds I50 were open) his stats may look good but in terms of influence, he didn’t really do all that much, it’s become more likely we don’t see him in the AFL this year (baring a mass injury plague) I really hope he doesn’t become a Konstanty 2.0

DEFENDERS - Get there own section as I’ve had to base there games a bit differently as it was so quiet down there)

Kyle - Was Elite 1st Quater, 2&3rd a bit quiet but did nothing wrong, picked up again on the 4th, wouldn’t mind seeing him take Bices spot next week but I have a feeling they may play safe and let Kyle get more time in the VFL first

Snell - not sure who was the best defender between Kyle and Snell, Kyle got more, but Snell snagged 3 beautiful interceptions marks & didn’t lose a single 1on1, if Cox decides to keep Melican & Rampe in the VFL, Snell should be in for Hamling 100%

Melican - Did his Job alright, defenders didn’t have to do much but he did no wrong

Rampe - Did no Wrong, limited game time, may need another game in the VFL if they need to get his fitness up, or they were playing him safe to come back in next week, have to wait and see

Bowman - Playing defensive winger, looked on in the first quarter, but went a bit quiet after that, not a bad game, but nothing exceptional to talk about

Will Green - 1st Game Back!!! And honestly did very well in the ruck, broke even against a more mature aged ruck, if he can tough it out, and work around the ground more we may get to see him next year in the AFL hopefully

We Won!!! 118-82

BOG: Ladhams took the cake in the final Quarter
It was a close Ruck contest but Southport’s ruck was cooked last quarter and Ladhams punished them for it

Next Best lot

- Jevan - 3 Goals & always looked dangerous every time he was near it

- Cootee - Racked up the disposals, snagged a goal & good tackling pressure, reason why he didn’t get BOG was a lot of his disposals were messy or resulted in a turnover

- Bowman - amazing to see he finally had a great game after injury issues, if he can keep this up, he may have a chance for a debut near the end of the season if we decide to rest a wing or Half back, keep it up!

Average Games

- Datolli - I had him penciled in as BOG at half time, but I pretty much didn’t see him after half time, which was so disappointing as it looked like he was going to have 5 & 20 but just faded out sooo badly I couldn’t even have him as the next tier up

- Snell, looked on fire first quarter, but Southport caught on quick to his intercept work and dragged a player into the goal square all game, so he couldn’t do his usual brilliant work, held his opponent to only 1 goal all game, which if it was a Full back, that’s a great result, but he is our zoning interceptor so for him, it’s still a good result but something to learn on how to keep involved in the game when the team knows you’re intercept work was killing then early

The Retirement Club

- Adams - honestly looked good first 5 mins, then he has done his hammy once again in the first quarter, time to hang the boots up, even if it was just hammy awerness, you could tell he will be off the park for a couple more weeks

All in all, a great all round performance from the AFl Listed players, with almost no poor performance

VFL Player shout-out

James O’loughlin - wowza what an unreal game from the 2nd gamer, he was clean the whole game, and positioned himself very well when the ball was coming into D50, the way he is playing, and if he continues to play, I think we’ll see him snag a Rookie or a late draft pick come end of year! Still early days but was great to see him flourish

VFL Post Match Thread

We just lost it 107 to 110, a great game but gees you can tell with the injuries to a lot of our AFL Listed players, we’ve dropped some winnable games, even young players like Heatherton if we had 1 extra tall up fwd I feel we win the game, but ahwell

BOG: Ladhams* - the caveat is, stkilda clued on to his dominate ruck work and begun taking all the clearances in the mid, our mid needed to be sharper to make the most of his great work

Very Solid Games

- Cunners, worked tirelessly after his shocking 1st quarter, can see he’ll keep spots hard to retain in the AFL if people drop in form

- Co Warner was clean as usual around the ground

- Cootee again showing he is elite, and honestly could see him back in the AFL is Cleary doesn’t have a good game

-Jevan - was elite up fwd and has shown late in game he is willing to go deep down the ground to try and help the team

Good Standard Games

- Hamling down back worked a treat, but he cost 2 very very sloppy goals due to bad decision making that he should know better with his age & afl experience

- Hanily, kept improving each quarter, and looked damaging when kicking I50

Rough Games

- Snell, had a shocker of a 1st, worked well into the 2nd, Invisible in the 3rd, and then was elite in the 4th but to little to late, probably the first game I’ve seen of his this year where he got beat up convincingly, unfortunate to see as he probably was close for a debut but maybe the call for one is a bit quieter this week

- Datolli, some good things but once again, he is a flash in the pan brilliance player, he needs to work in his 2 way running and pressure if he wants to be considered for AFL Callup, still no where near it for either a small fwd call up, or as a midfielder

- Bowman, didn’t even know he was playing till the 2nd quarter, worked in it a bit but didn’t do much damage with the ball, will give him an out this week as he has been hit with the injury bug this year, so good to just get a game into his legs

VFL Post Match thread

Not the result we wanted, but with a lot of AFL Players injured, players were running thing

Result 66-80

BOG - Cootee, he was quiet first half, but was vital for us to come back and almost win

Next best players

Snell - if we won I’d give him the BOG, as our mid was getting smashed the first half but he managed to hold us down very well as usual, Only listed AFL defender for us this game and it showed

Co.Warner - Standard Game from him, he was the clearance bull this game which is not his game style, so we often was getting beat in the mid

Datolli - huge 3rd Quater Goal & Mark and an assist, stepped up but a shame a couple of his kicks at goal couldn’t convert

The Others

Phillipou - not a lot of ball up fwd the first half so he struggled, but got himself involved afterwards and did some nice things

Hamling - injured first quarter and was basically stuck in the FF50, good to see him play the game out but can’t do much with 1 ankle

Chamberlain, had a shocking 3 Quarters and was getting caught out a lot, but his 4th he showed his great footy IQ & a great tackle to keep the ball I50, but unfortunately looks to of done a bad hammy, neo may not see him for a length of time

All in all, we had our chances to win but couldn’t convert, but it didn’t help only having 7 AFL Listed players

Players most likely to get an AFL Game Next week

- Cootee if Hanily/Cleary don’t play well & Rosas is sore again next week

- Snell if Kyle struggles with the AFL Elevation or if Melican plays poorly or injuries to our other defenders

VFL Post Match Thread

We Lose 90-76

Was a great game to watch (besides the 2nd Quarter) if we kick straight we win by 30+ (scored 3 goals 13 Behinds after half time which hurts

BOG: Snell - Intercepted everything, Marked cleanly and I wouldn’t be surprised his DE be above 90%, he was clean all game and often was the start of all our scoring Chains, surely we see him debut next week

Next Best

- Ladhams, typical game by him, only reason we won some clearances

- Hamling, after half time moved down back, and was massive (17 Marks!) his DE & 1on1 let him down but he improved as the game wore on

- Cootee, besides his horrid 2nd Quarter (yes it was horrid) he really stepped up in the 2nd half and honestly probably got the better of Worpel by the end as he looked cooked by end of the game

- Kyle - Was elite working with snell in the first half, taking kick outs and starting a lot of our ball movement, faded/tired by the end of game and started making some errors, but continuously improving he may get a debut against some easier teams

Good Games but not great

- Phillipou, kept working into the game and took his chances when he could, I wish he could kick straight as we would of won, but can’t fault his fwd craft improving each week

- Co Warner, got beat in the mid, but was involved in basically every scoring chain out of the D50

- McClean, 3 Goals 1st quarter he looked set for a huge game, then was fairly quiet, he went down back to help, and did decent enough, he was still a big presence throughout the game but it was a shame we couldn’t get a couple more goals out of him

- Datolli, had the hard task of taking on Bowes (and lost, but then again no one has beaten him this year) but he ended with 24 disposals and some of his kicks were very very skillful, he needs to improve his tank & speed but he looked better this week than the last month

Absolute shockers

- Chamberlain, he either would play safe and do nothing with his disposals, or he fumbled/ turned over, resulting in several goals scored against

- Cunningham, ignore his Fantasy Score because he was having a horror of a day, couldn’t kick/handball for shit in the first half, then went mid and did help, but even then he wasn’t clean, and wasted some opportunities going I50 (I am being harsh on him, but he is an almost 300 game player, and should be better than that)

Anyway, was a good game to watch, and you can tell we are almost there in terms of being the best VFL side, the way we are performing I do see us going deep in finals in the VFL this year

I expect Snell, Ladhams & Kyle getting some good mentioned in the team lineups this week if we want to rest some players/ debut the young guys

VFL Post Match Thread

We Demolished Collingwood 126-74

BOG - Hamling, 5 Goals, marked everything and even a couple of score assists he was massive up fwd for us

Next Best 3

Cleary - Inside Bull as usual, but 2 goals and great link up play was great to see, DE average as usual

Hanily - worked into the game more each quarter, his tackling & hand off’s were elite

Co.Warner - Was Massive 1st Quarter setting our lads up, was tagged 2&3rd quarter but still kept working hard well into the 4th Quarter

Rounding out the Top 5

Snell - I said if they kept Collingwood under 60 he would get BoG, This will be a big write up as his stats may not be huge but his impact was insane, he was our ONLY AFL Defender for the game, Hamling didn’t go down once so he was taking on there 198cm FF for the first half and when he was against him, always had the better position and only got beaten once in a 1on1, he was the general down back taking the FF but also intercepting, and after swans took control he pushed up higher up the field to shut down collingwoods run, often intercepting and his disposals were always clean, stat wise it wasn’t his best game but his leadership & influence down back was elite

Very Solid Outings

Kyle - had his highest disposal game (albeit taking most of the kickouts) but credit to him he used it well almost everytime, and had some good runs up the ground also

Datolli - played mid all game and his tackling & clearance work was the best it’s been all year

‘Almost Games’

Ladhams - for his lofty level it was alright, 30 hitouts and some nice clearances but didn’t take control as usual

Phillipou - 1.4 says it all, worked hard up field all day

Not the best Games

Chamberlain - a lot of poor errors, but did a couple of nice things that was good to see

McClean - 2 goals is alright, but he got soundly beat by Jiath today, and didn’t do much favour to break his way back to the AFL Side

And shout out to Mellis who probably was BOG even above all the AFL Players, he is so damaging every possession and goes 100% at every contest

(Very late) VFL Post Match Thread

For some reason this game was basically the exact same time as our AFL Match, so only watched the replay last night (albeit half asleep so I apologise for the mediocre review)

We lost 75-63

It really shows when there’s injuries/outs in the AFL how quickly it can change the quality of game at the lower level, if we had McClean & Cunners in this game there is no doubt we win this match comfortably

BOG - Co.Warner by the length of a country mile, he was everywhere with 4 goals and 36 Disposals, was clean & was using corridor well all game

Ladhams once again won the ruck comfortably

Cleary wasn’t as clean as he has been the last couple weeks and probably cost us a couple of goals in turnovers, but still not horrid by any means

(VFL Player Mallis) - he is an absolute freak and I really hope Swans put Adams in the retirement home to pick him up in the mid year because he could walk up to our seniors side and take Cootee or Lloyds spot next week he is that good

Hanily - played more mid and was decent, didn’t take his chances in the F50 with clumsy hands a couple times

Kyle - can’t fault his confidence going into the contest, will always give 100% and was pretty good this game, still believe a debut is on the cards at the end of the year the way he keeps improving his IQ

Hamling - if Tmac is out another week he is 100% taking pelicans spot, didn’t do much wrong but admittedly did show his age and couldn’t keep up against norths younger FWD’s if they got a fast break

Snell - looked ON in the first quarter, then kind of just didnt take the game on? Didn’t do anything wrong, but almost like he didnt want to risk jumping off his man and trying to intercept plays, which he has been doing so well at all year, not a bad game by any means, but probably a tad under what he has produced week in week out this year

Chamberlain - was on the wing/HBF and had some good signs, working his way in still but enjoying watching him more each week, still don’t see him breaking in the AFL side at all this year, but good work throughout the year he may get the reward next year

Datolli - bro… you know you had a chance to take Rosas spot this year but somehow your so far off it your probably behind Phillipou for a debut this year, besides 1 good game this year has done nothing in the mid/fwd spot

Phillipou - didn’t get much, but took his chances when he did, decent pressure all game, just needs to force himself to be involved more throughout the game

All in all, we didn’t play bad at all, just didn’t have a Full Forward this game, and didn’t have a single senior head to calm down the kids and tell them what to do (Hamling isn’t really a senior head as he has never really held a seniors spot in the last 8 years of his career)

So assuming McClean is in for Curnow

And maybe a sneaky Snell Debut for Serong??? Though I feel they play it safe and bring cunners in and we go a bit shorter,

But with these outs it definitely makes the game in Saturday a bit more stressful!

u/VdarcyV — 2 months ago

Apologies for how late this is, I had to rewatch the last quarter as I fell asleep the first 15 mins..: could of probably not bothered re watching as I didn’t miss much,

ANWAY!

BOG - Ladhams - once again dominated Ruck and clearance,

Next Best

  1. Cleary once again was our inside distributor, still a bit messy but couldn’t of competed in the mid without him

  2. Co.Warner, 2 beautiful 50m goals & ran all day in the midfield, did nothing wrong

  3. Cunningham, could of been BOG with his cleanliness & his experience in co-ordinared the defence the first half of the game, and probably will come back in next week for Cootee I feel

Still Good, But Not Great

  1. Hanily, got involved in a lot of chains, and snuck in a goal, could of had a better day if kicked more accurately

  2. Hamling, his Disposal count looks like he had a field day, but the main reason that Melbourne came back a bit was because of his poor kicking/decision making coming out the back line, this is the main reason why I believe they chose Pelican over Big Ham in the seniors

  3. Snell, was quiet 1st quarter only because we dominated the fwd, had some very classy tackles & kicks starting the chain to move the ball up fwd, doubt he gets a debut next week, but again, did no wrong

Average Games, can’t complain

  1. Phillipou, 2 nice goals and some good pressure up fwd, I can see him learning his craft as a half fwd this year and honestly put pressure on our half fwd rolls for a debut late in the year/ next year

  2. Harry Kyle, if you looked at his low fantasy score you would think he was pretty crap… what he did in the first half was one of the reasons we pilled on several goals because of him, still needs to improve the tank to keep going all day, but has has the fight to continuously want the ball & action

  3. Datolli, was predominantly mid this game, and after seeing his first 2 quarters in there… he needs to MASSIVELY build his tank up & his repeat acts or else he won’t be getting into the senior side for some time

  4. Chamberlain, didn’t do anything wrong, but didn’t do anything to excite me either

  5. McClean, some may see 2 goals and think this is harsh, but both goals came from pure luck, and he got abused by Tom McDonald massively all game, and showed if a half decent AFL Defender plays a lockdown roll, he can’t do much

Bad/unlucky

  1. First half I didn’t even know Bowman was playing he was that invisible, and then he had hammy awerness and was off afterwards, shame to see as he was rumoured to be close to a debut at the start of the year, now I feel we’ll be lucky to see him get a cheap game or two at end of year

All in all, great to see us bank another win, and several players putting pressure on Senior spots if some guys have bad games/ needs a rest

Special shout out to a new VFL Player Mallis!! He was absolutely amazing to watch, and everytime he had the ball I was honestly excited to see what would happen
