We got smashed, and our finals is over unfortunately

Hard to pin point how we lost it, midfield slowly was losing the longer the day went on, defenders couldn’t stand up, and it was obvious we had no AFL Level ruck/tall men to assist

Where to start!

BOG: Bowman, he was ON from the first quarter and was really the only good AFL Listed player we had today, he has shown the last month why they were saying he may of debuted early this year, I do expect he could debut R1 if Hamling/Cunners & Bice are out of the team

Snell/Riak/Melican - can all go into 1 catagory, all were unfortunately well held and were smart enough to always drag Snell Deep so he couldn’t assist the others to intercerpt, also really hurt our run off half back due to this also, Riak is still young & very raw so a lot of silly errors but his effort today was still great to see, but just his rawness has caught him out today, Melican… 100+ AFL Games and somehow the worst of them all, Soundly beaten almost every 1on1, didn’t get involved in many plays & never was able to help the younger guys, at this point I would rather we run the risk of Snell coming into the seniors if we needed another tall, I have no idea what has happened to melican this year,

Co.Warner - tried his best, but obviously we don’t have the inside mids, so it was a hard day for him, but he can lift his head high atleast

McLean - 2 Goals, was a good presence up fwd, but gees he only has 1 running speed and that’s slow, but still glad he got a run in the legs incase we need him for finals

Jevan - 2 Goals and I think 2 GA’s, rough day for him as the ball wasn’t flowing when he can do the most damage, but still, he is NIL I assume if we lose a small fwd

Rosas………how he has fallen from his 7 goal game in the middle of the year needs to be studied, was never in the right place (I’m sure his “pressure acts” will be high as he was always chasing the oppo but never really pressuring them) it really disappointed me how he hasn’t stepped up, and tried to be THE guy in the fwd line at reserve level, he has the flair to but just couldn’t do anything well today to help the team

1 more note - HOLY FUCK UMPIRING - I want to find the free kicks, wouldn’t be surprised there was 60+ it was horrendous how involved they were getting

This was an absolute joy to watch! With everything going on during my the week, and with the forced outs, there was hardly any AFL Listed players playing I expected us to be gone

BUT BOY WAS I WRONG! Before I get into the AFL Player review I have to talk about the VFL Players,

Sutton was BOG, was quiet after half time but he did the damage when we needed it, and then we got to see some of the U18 academy prospects and my god did they all shot up the draft rankings!

Harrison with 2 beautiful running goals, Pignatelli with 2 looking good up fwd, Meaney doing the work in the guys, Andreacchio working all day and I think I may be missing 1-2 but gees they performed like they were ready for the AFL, all of them!

Now to get into the AFL Players

AFL BOG

This is a hard one, as Co.Warner was the best by half time, Bowman was having his best game creating from kick ins, but of course it has to go to…

PHILLIPOU - 6 Goals & 3 Behinds he put the nail in the coffin for us at 3Qtr time, but even before half time he worked hard up the ground to contribute and was very clean almost every disposal, if our small FWD’s don’t perform Tommorow, I fully expect Jevan to get his debut, his Footy IQ is just so damn good, and his fitness has improved every week

Almost everyone had a fantastic game so there’s no best to worst order, just reviews

Co.Warner - was elite first half, worked so damn hard in the midfield, and I expect he also is close to coming in for finals if there’s so poor displays (though I expect he is behind Mcinerney when he is back for finals)

Bowman - yes bowman had about 8-10 kick ins, but he was so damaging every time he had it, he knew the game plan was SPEED, and everytime he did what he could to move it quick, he still needs to improve his defensive body work, but his rebounding work is fantastic and I expect we see him next year very early in the season that way he is performing

Snell - was played higher up the ground in the first half, and boy did we get spoiled to see it, running hard in the mid, intercepting everything as usual and his Footy IQ to always find the right player was brilliant, think I saw 3 goals set up from his work in the back 50 in the first quarter alone, went quiet in the 2nd half but that’s cause we dominated from the midfield, but didn’t do a step wrong for another chance at debut

Riak - had some amazing 1on1 work and a great goal saving tackle in the 3rd to shut down Frankston momentum, went fwd when we had the game won? And snagged a goal, he has such a high ceiling for any position, if he gets a full pre season next year I’m very excited to see if he gets a debut next year

Rosas - was injured/sore after half time, so unsure how bad the injury is, but first half he did some typical bad Rosa’s things, but also some very good Rosa’s things, if he played the full game like that, I would be very happy with his performance as he may of snagged 1-2 goals for his hard work hope he isn’t to sore, need to keep pressure on all spots for finals

All in all, was a great hard working display, and has got me so excited for the elimination final next week for the vfl squad!!!!

Game Starts at 11:05, I know it’s early but really try and get around the guys that are playing today

There AFL Listed Players that are playing are fairly bare, so it’ll be a tough tough game for us to win

To say our VFL team is sparse is laughable, especially when we have Snell as our ruckman in the lineup they posted…

Essendon win 125-98

BOG: Caiden Cleary - was huge everywhere all game

Can’t be arsed doing a write up of all players, so many of our midfielders failed to get back to help defence

McLean was having a shocker before going off injured after half

Snell was rusty after he 2 weeks off

Rosas still has a tendency to do to much before he even has the ball

But overall just dissapointing that we blew a top 4 chance, we need to PRAY and I hate to say this, that GWS beat Tassie

We take on Essendon, to lock down our top 4 chance

If we win it’s almost guaranteed we finish 4th (lucky can finish 3rd) as our percentage is way higher than 5th it’s pretty unlikely we get skipped by percentage

Very happy he is getting another week in the seniors, hopefully can perform better than McClean does (not hard to beat that)

Grudge Match (not really) against Tassie, those traitors who stole Fox from us (we delisted him)

I won’t be watching the whole game so if anyone else feels like doing the Post Match Thread be my guest, or I can do it Sunday :)

We demolished GWS 168-90,

BOG: Honestly hard because so many players did so damn well, but hard to go past Datolli’s unreal game, 3 goals, and wouldn’t be surprised near 10 SI/GA’s he was in everything early

Next Best Lot

Snell: low disposal (due to never being in defence) but 5 Intercept Marks & 2 Spoils was so fkn elite, had a perfect game (gave some free’s away in the 4th Qtr but games done already)

Sheldrick: obviously to good for VFL and his presence in the mid made everyone play harder and tackle stronger, will be interesting if he is straight back into the AFL Side

Co.Warner: good as always, running non stop all day

Great Games All Around

Hamling: 6 Goals, albeit most came from the goal square, but was pivotal in the land slide

Green: Best Game yet for him! Though against a full in ruck it was expected, really loved his work around the ground though

Phillipou: 3 Goals and pressure any time GWS was in our 50 was great to see, Datolli probably gets a game ahead of him, but he isn’t far behind

Bowman: REAALLLYYY loved his game in the first half, was Defensively minded but also was taking the game on trying to create off the half back, can see he will get a game if we decide to rest blakey or bice come end of season

Good/Average Games

Melican: got beat a couple times early in the day which was disappointing to see, but his work up the ground and his 1on1’s afterwards were unreal

Hanily: 3 Goals, nice pressure, but faded in and out of the game

Cleary: Quiet game for his usual, but was a good grunt worker next to Sheldrick

We won’t mention this game again:

Riak Andrews: Horror of a game, give him a mulligan being only his 3rd game this year

On a side note

Meaney & Medved probably both jumped up 5-10 spots in the draft, both were unbelievable, and if they keep playing to us at this level I feel we may not have the draft capitol to snag both come draft night

Anyway, ONTO THE DERBY FOR THE AFL SIDE!

We won a wet tough contest! 78-62

Pretty much everyone gets a mulligan because weather was a horror, but honestly everyone did what they needed to do which was great to see

BOG: Cootee with 5 goals & 13 tackles was a beast!

Next best:
Kyle - what a way to show you’re above VFL Level, 30 disposals and was the star of the show in the 2nd Quarter with 3 intercept marks

Datolli - who would have thought one of his best games was due to the fact he played fwd most the game? Looked a class above all day with how clean his hands were in the wet, and got some nice clearances last quarter when moved in the mid

Cleary - worked hard all day, was a typical Cleary VFL game, hard working inside mid

Hanily - same as Cleary, another typical VFL level match for him

Bowman - can definitely see him get a debut end of year if we decide to give Blakey a rest, or trial him instead of Bice/Kyle, looked good today and some nice defensive moments also

Co.Warner - typical Co.Warner VFL Game

Snell - 1st Quarter he was responsible for 2 goals rebounding from D50 and had some nice intercept marks, then the wet weather stopped that and become a dirty game, did nothing wrong and did what was required, another notch in his belt for a debut

Riak - great to see 2nd game he was confident taking on big O Allen most the day, and was moving well in the wet, looking very good for 2nd game back

Will Green - Could of had a monster game if he snagged the 2 goals, but was an event contest in the ruck & had some nice marks around the ground

Hamling - Hamling Game, thrown everywhere and did a bit of good a bit of bad

Jevan - unfortunately it was Datolli’s day and not his, I think was playing with a busted ankle/calf after he took a hit in the 3rd, saw some nice things still, but a quiet day

And a side note

Henry Meaney- what a kid! He looks ready for next year and was always so hard going for the ball, I expect we see him again in our VFL team this year,

How good!

He was bloody great in the VFL, so good to see he is straight back in!

What a game, so close it’s a DRAW!!!! 91-91

This will be a long one,

We should of won if not for some horror kicking up fwd

BOG: I’m splitting it between 2 in Snell & BJ

BJ - WELCOME BACK, every disposal was clean, his pressure was always elite & got 2-3 HTB’s from some elite tackling, could of finished with 3 Goals & 3 GA’s but if not for an unlucky touched ball & teammates missing, but none the less his composure was elite & will be straight into the team next week I assume (I will put an asterix only if Fox thinks he needs more match fitness but unlikely, he played most the game today)

Snell - 13 Marks (would love to know the 1% & Spoils also) intercept everything, and was honestly the reason we got a draw in the dying minutes he defended tooth and nail, it was a complete game by him and if Cox wants to make a statement, he gets his Debut next week at the expense of Great Dane (I know his Footy IQ is amazing but his brain fades last week were so fucking poor he was the start of the downfall of the last quarter)

Next best (just under BOG level)

Bice - yes he did some errors but he was also very very damaging, may get a chance if they want more speed, but may be at the expense of Kyle (but I think Kyle keeps his spot)

The still very solid players

Jevan, did what was required, played higher up the field this game & honestly was surprised how well he did, not a bag of goals, but not a step wrong in getting closer to a debut

Bowman - did some mistakes but all in all did what was required and was calm

(The tales of 2 half’s player)

Rosas - by half time he was horrid & I was thinking we would get nothing out of him, but after half time set up lots of scoring opportunities & snagged one himself, not sure if he comes back in next week, but made up for his horror 1st half

The Okay Players

Melican - I was going to put him in the poor players as his stats look okay for a full back, he did some nice things, but his main role is to stop the oppo full forward, which he failed at spectacularly, if you watch the replay, he let the oppo fly over to take the last mark of the game to draw it, and I counted 5 other times he was playing behind his man, and couldn’t catch him, leading to an easy mark I50 & chance at goal, if it wasn’t for our useless midfielders I would be a lot harsher, but the midfield was so so so bad today

Riak- great to see him back & at half time looked settled (besides his kicking) he then really really fell off, and could see he didn’t have the tank for a full game yet, giving him an out as it’s his first game back, and what we saw in the first half was very very exciting, if he can do it all game next year, I’ll be so excited to watch him each week

The Bad lot

It’s not a lie to say this was almost a 2022 GF replay where our young kids got bashed up by bigger bodies and we couldn’t do a single thing

Co.Warner - he is known to beat weak in the mid, but gees he was useless in any contest

Cootee- tougher than Co.Warner but couldn’t match it at all against Mooney & Cunningham and was getting thrashed in the mid, (he gets a bit of a better grade than Warner due to snagging a nice goal)

Datolli - call it a year, he ain’t close to AFL level, and needs a massive pre season to even have a chance of a debut

Green - this isn’t his fault, he went up against an AFL level ruckmen who monstered him, though did some nice things around ground, needs to be more competitive

I think that’s everyone!

Definitely some competition for spots after some poor performances in the AFL (hopefully Logan is back from injury to take Hamlings spot) but keep an eye out for Campbell, Snell, Bice & Jevan to possibly get the nod

We Won! 120-80!

BOG - Bice, was instrumental on getting the ball I50 & kept getting cleaner as the game went on, probably will come back in next week if they decide to drop Kyle or someone from the back line

Next Best lot

Cootee: was elite in the mid! I’d love he gets a game instead of Hanily or Warner next week (but with Paps & Logan probably back in we will see)

Melican: was great down back, lost some 1v1’s but when his opponent was 10cm+ taller it’s hard to compete, but his intercept work and pressure was elite

Datolli: 3 Goals, probably his best full 4qtr game in a long time, he may have a chance if they want him in as a sml fwd if Papley can’t get up

Very Good Games lot:

Bowman: Best game he has had I feel! Was great rebounding of D50, he is behind a lot of great HBF’s for a debut, but he definitely could get a debut if we rest players for the last couple of games of the year

Phillipou: 3 Goals, and worked high up the ground, if Datolli wasn’t a touch better this game I would say he gets the nod for a debut, he still might!

Good Games:

Rosas: the worst of the 3 sml fwds, but worst definitely doesn’t mean bad, 22 disposals and created a lot of excitement going I50, may get a call up, but no scoreboard impact may hurt him

Will Green: 2nd game back and a better performance, was going to be tough taking 30kg extra weight that is Jarrod Witt’s, but did his role

Snell: was quiet 1st quarter he was to far off trying to play free intercept work, after that he put his body on the line and worked hard, probably no debit next week, but still a solid game none the less

All in all, Bice,Cootee, Datolli, Melican will put pressure on spots, and I expect 1-2 to get a call back next week after Hanily & Co.Warners game was average
