A Harvard Extension Course You May Find Interesting

Just in case this interests you, registration is now open! My criend is also the TA and she’s awesome.

Post-Growth Approaches for Economic Transformation will be offered this fall at Harvard Extension School with Gaya Herrington and Katherine von Stackelberg.
Climate change, biodiversity loss, inequality, and financial fragility are often treated as separate problems requiring separate solutions—but they arise from the same system. This course examines that system. 🌱
In this course, you will:
→ Examine the assumptions embedded in neoclassical economic models and the institutions built upon them
→ Explore what an economy operating within real biophysical limits requires, including how Indigenous communities have governed shared resources for centuries
→ Work with the metrics, tools, and policies used to make decisions within complex systems
→ Apply these ideas to the provision of food, energy, water, and housing—and examine the responsibilities of business, finance, and governance
→ Develop a framework for organizing collective action while avoiding the fear-and-paralysis trap
Guest speakers include Luke Kemp, author of Goliath’s Curse.
The course is online on Tuesdays and may be taken live or asynchronously. Graduate, undergraduate, and noncredit options are available.

Worrisome classmate

I was verbally abused by a classmate via WhatsApp, so I reported the incident to the anti-bullying department. I completed approximately 90% of our project, yet this classmate still called me insulting names, including “st*pid” and worse.
I was wondering how long it normally takes for the department to at least acknowledge a report. I’m disappointed that I have not heard back. No student should be subjected to personal insults, especially after consistently contributing high-quality work to a group project.

ALM Finance and Management buddies or support group.

Hello,

I am seeking a community of friends or a support group where I can share advice, tips, and discoveries. Is it permissible to share WhatsApp links within this platform? It is both isolating and daunting to embark on this journey alone.

In person exams

I’m really happy that we’re back to in-person, paper exams for our summer class. It feels very old-school and makes me feel nostalgic. I also like that it evens the playing field after the Brown scandal.

Is there an orientation for Summer class attendees?

Hi, I am enrolled in classes for the upcoming summer session. I was wondering if there is an orientation available for summer students to get acquainted with the school? If there is, when is it?
Additionally, since I will be living off-campus, am I still eligible to purchase meals or a commuter meal plan?
Thank you.

What’s the likelihood that I will be admitted to HES?

My college GPA from 20 years ago belongs in the lower depths of Dante’s Inferno. However, I recently scored exceptionally well on both the GMAT and GRE. Despite those scores, I feel like my past GPA is a permanent scarlet letter.I want to pursue higher education and am currently looking into Harvard Extension School. I've earned A’s in my first two admissions courses, an A in Essentials of Economics during my first semester, and performed very well in the HBS Online CORe program. To help manage my expectations (and possibly, a bruised ego) what is the realistic likelihood of my admission into the ALM in Finance or Management programs?

Favorite Macroecon and corp finance professors.

I had Watson and Sabin for economics and finance, respectively. I really enjoyed their classes and learned a lot from them, but I feel like I should try to learn from other professors as well. As a prospective finance major, I'd love to know: who are your favorite professors for this major, regardless of the subject?
