Interview link failed, interviewer rescheduled for tomorrow — did this hurt my chances?
I was supposed to have an interview today for a job I REALLY want and am extremely qualified for. When it was time for the interview, though, the Google Meet link they sent me wouldn’t work.
I emailed the interviewer twice but didn’t hear back. After about 30 minutes of trying to get in, I finally called the number in his email signature and left a voicemail. He’s the National Director of Operations and the same person who contacted me and scheduled the interview. He had previously been extremely responsive, usually replying within minutes, so after several hours of silence my anxiety went through the roof and I became convinced I had somehow blown my chance.
About three hours later, he emailed me back. Apparently the link worked perfectly on his end. He said he joined, waited 10 minutes, and left when I didn’t show up. Meanwhile, I had been trying to join the exact same link and getting an error. He said he’d never had this happen before, but he offered to reschedule for tomorrow morning, which I immediately accepted.
Now I’m worried that even though I technically have another interview, I’ve already made a terrible first impression.
The frustrating part is that this job is almost an exact match for my background. I have around 10 years of experience doing this type of work, including several years in the same industry. I know the industry extremely well and have direct experience with almost everything they’re looking for. I also haven’t interviewed for a job in about five years, so I was already pretty anxious going into this.
For anyone who has been involved in hiring: Would something like this hurt a candidate’s chances, or am I massively overthinking it? Does the fact that he offered to reschedule mean I probably still have a legitimate shot?
