Brother always teases that I only use wrenches and sockets but have no power tools. Would this be a good intro to an impact gun? XD

Ever done some borderline redneck moves to get by?

A while back I had to seat the ring gear and torque down the retainer bolts.

I had no way to hold the unit still, so I ratchet strapped it to a pallet and my trailer.

And it worked!

Before and after. Not the final design, but I think a lot better.

Yes. All raw cut metal in the quarter panel has been weather guarded with Por-15. Even the mounts for the screws are M5 rivnut in the metal, and M5 heat set inserts for the plastic sections.

Eva foam sheets, cut and poked for holes is sandwiched between the car's original panels and the parts we've made.

This all is just to be a little nicer on the eyes when driving around. When we finally get to stage 2 we'll build a bit more onto the flat panel section.

Large panel is 0.093" Polycarbonate.

Fender flare is Amazon special.

Small update on 3000GT

Small selection of pics after making a floor to seal up the fuel cell and rear trunk space. We laid down a 6mm peel and stick foam sound insulation backed with aluminum foil. Not sure of the DB reduction, but gotta be better than nothing, yeah?

We're also wrapping the roll cage in a soft fabric tape, this after thoroughly coating it all with black Por-15.

We're thinking of adding a piece of that sound insulation foam to the door bars before wrapping in the fabric tape. It should look like a slightly thicker section to the cage that is padded, just for the occasional leg knocking into it.

Simple things.

One of the small things I had wanted to do was to have a wing nut with a lock washer to hold the steering wheel in place of the column.

I don't much need a quick release steering wheel, but having the means to take it off in field without tools helps a lot for under-dash work.

With my recent dabble in Tig welding, I finally dived into it. I love how well this little guy turned out.

Test fitting the old bumper back on.

Stage 2 after getting it running is a body kit that better forms to the new drivetrain and dimensions.

Angle tracing tool I made.

I took some time yesterday and designed a printed guide. It snaps to the base of the angled pipe and then swings that ring over the diameter. A flat on the ring body will hold my digital angle finder.

Once I have my angle I take a fine point sharpie and trace it on the inside ring. Hopefully helping guide me better for cutting.

This due to me using a cut off wheel and not a band saw, but whatever, we make due, right?

Don't do what I did! Bad idea. Tape 2D. Belt 3D

The belt I just bought using the tape method is about an inch shy. I assume the thickness of belt is why.

Anyone else use masking tape to plan and measure for a belt?

Was gonna use paracord, but randomly tried this idea and I'm amazed how well it works. I simply overlap the end to the start, then rip it somewhere and take it off and measure.

*edit: let it be known, this isn't accurate somehow. I think the tape being nearly 2D with no thickness compared to the belt that has thickness is throwing something off.

The tape measured exactly 80.6in (with tensioner compressed all the way) but a 81.6in belt doesn't fit. Almost looks like it needs to be 82.5 to 83in*

Brought the PRNDL indicator and reverse lights online.

Working on making the vehicle street legal.

It's an Arduino microcontroller with a potentiometer reporting shifter position. When the shifter is in R position, it also triggers a Mosfet relay that turns on and off the reverse lights as needed.

The display is an I2C 1 inch screen amplified with a lens and packaged in a 3D printed housing. It gives a unique look that I feel adds to the cyberpunk aesthetic.

The actual shifter has a geared potentiometer locked to the rotating spindle of the shifter. All I need to do is install this unit, and view the potentiometer position ranges in code and tune them properly.

I will be installing a switch to toggle the 4L80 from standard automatic to PRN4321 mode. The display will update to reflect those gear callouts when in that mode.
