I'm reaching out in hopes to gain some new members for S.H.C United. We are a relatively small server with 45+ members. We actively love to teach raids and hang out. Don't worry if you are new or are a returning veteran.

I speak from a non-shippers point of view to having a change of mind.

I always believed Levi to be very distant. When I was younger in H.S, 2015, I would scoff at those who shipped the two. It seemed they were pulling strings. I myself view everything in a "there must be proof" and signs imdividual.

Myself; my main ship is Nanaba and Miche.

Many years later it's 2026. I've taken psychology, medical studies, Literature, you name it. Not to mention having relationship experience opens up different psycologies.

Upon the rewatch, of the series. I understand it now. Levi did indeed have feelings for Petra.

It's subtle. The signs are truly there. I implore that you set your personal feelings and prejudices aside and let's look at what the series shows us. I'll also add how I pieced this together using psychology and my own experiences.

Anything in [__] is my experience, you can skip if you want just the show proof.

Our first introduction to Levi is rather stark. We perceive him through Eren's eyes. Serious and quite cold.

When Petra talks to Eren, she uses his name stating that the captain uses it and he sets the tone for the rest of them. She then proceeds to remark Levi's quirks and features.

[For anyone in or new to a relationship you tend to make fun of your beloved because of your day to day interactions with them. You become more attached noticing flaws. When you have a crush you don't do that- as your brain floods with dopamine and oxytocin clouding your judgement.]

Most of what Petra conveys in this interaction seems to be stories heard.

[ In my experience of having a relationship with someone I worked closely with, we kept our personal life and work life very separated. No one knew in the workplace. He was rather quiet and work focused and if someone asked me about him i'd tell them what I know but kept it very bland like I didnt hear it from the man himself. If he came near id act like I wasn't saying anything. Which made me laugh rewatching that scene because looking around. My friend when talking about their s.o as well get this way when he looms near.]

Then we go to Ouro trying to act like Levi. His haircut, demeanor and all. Petra is clearly annoyed and states that it's rather embarrassing. This had to have come up in conversation before for her to mention it. The other members of squad Levi didnt partake in the conversation but it begs the question where would it come up. Clearly everyone must know that Petra has some affection towards Levi? Shouldn't they?

[Implementing my own 2 sense. With my relationship my coworkers deduced I had feelings for this cold person at work because I was seen talking to him often (believe it or not it was about work). Stating "you're crushing on him" in fact I wasn't. I was already with him but they didnt know. Now there was a coworker from the same department who liked me and my b.f and I would discuss how it is blaintly obvious he liked me but I wouldn't reciprocate. We had these discussions on our own private time. We would joke how he would go out of his way to tease me or bring me small items of affection which I would deny. He the guy crushing on me would state "oh, is it because you're still crushing over ___." I'd laugh like no.

(2 years went by when I finally left that workplace we decided to tell everyone we were together which shocked everyone because it seemed we just had a respect for each other thats all) at work there was more drama but he'd make a small pass by just to see me or he would work in the same vicinity as me just to be close.]

With that I thought my goodness. Thats what's going on with Petra and Levi. The cleaning. They're near each other. He tells Eren. Go back and finish upstairs. Petra and Levi are there alone. Are they doing anything? No. Just the mere presence. Also notice anytime Levi needs something done it's always "Petra" go do this and that.

Now to the spoon scene with Eren. Petra is smart. She spends time with the group then she migrates towards Levi where it's them two. It's so subtle no one would suspect a thing. Why would they? You have to have a level of comfort to be able to stand next to someone you love. Squad Levi does have that comfort with one another- it ties in with trust. If its a crush 80% of the population avoids them due to primal reasons of flight or fight "embarrassment" and some can be rather fearless with their crush.

Now when Gunter, Ouro and the rest of squad Levi are freaking out over Eren transforming they're focused on asking Eren. Petra? She is concerned for Levi's wellbeing but now the situation is purely work related. They're fearful and Levi is the only one acting rationale.

The scenes everyone uses for proof. Levi staying over Petra's dead body for a few seconds. Levi knows time is crucial. But he takes the time to mourn for her specifically, but- this is work and he compromised his personal grief for just a brief moment...

When Mikasa and Levi are facing the female titan. We know Levi uses his rage to process emotions. When he gets titan blood on his face in this scene theres a moment he looks up and the blood contours his face like tears streaming down his eyes. (Beautiful imagery to depict for someone like Levi) tears shed in his own way. What he does best, killing titans. (I really urge you to watch that scene again you'll see what I mean)

Now let's move on to the scene where they are gathering up the dead bodies. We all know the patch he took was Petra's. Her bitten hand, the body being shorter than the rest.

Then we have Dieter confronting Erwin and Levi on leaving Ivan. Questioning their humanity claiming Levi's remarks are cold.

We know Dieter went back to find the Ivan's body because he screams to wait with 2 titans closing in and a lifeless corpse behind him. They lead them straight to the group.

When Levi commands them to dump the bodies stating "these arent special" (a lie) and to "consider it their last service to the cause" it hold very hard weight because Levi watches and it focuses on Petra's body her feminine features of her face. Then we get a close up of Levi's eyes. A face may be cold but eyes tell the truth.

Giving the patch and lying- for the second time. "This is Ivan's". Dieter cries but Levi is stone cold and again- we get his eyes.

Petra was a kind soul. When we see Petra and Levi interact for the first time he is encouraging a fallen soldier. Was his death in vain? This is important. Levi, the clean freak, hates titan blood. Then 4 seconds later he is holding hands with titan blood making a promise. The blood streams down the hand like tears. His voice is strong, but listen to how it changes when (a crying) Petra tells Levi, he passed. His voice turns to a soothing tone. She assures him, he is in peace. Then he tells her "we can help."

Petra is emotional and I believe even in death she made an impact even if it was her patch. Dieter was not at peace until he knew he could bring home Ivan... Petra's patch brought him peace... Levi and Petra brought that peace... we see Dieter crying tears before it goes black... then we see a flower... Forget-me-nots. In Japanese culture that flower symbolizes true love and fidelity...

Memory that will stay forever...

Let me remind you all...

Levi had to practice what he preached. He took a piece of Petra home, he left her body. He was completely in grief... he gave what was left of her to Dieter, then we see the forget me not. The memory he will always carry.

Prior we saw Gunter, Eld, Ouro's family wondering about them. But we dont get Petra's family till later. Her dad.

This was done on purpose. We heard the conversation (one sided) and we see Levi's gripped hand and his eyes and face... its full of grief... remember letters written in the military arent just one but they date them over time. You write a little one day, write some more another. We hear of Levi hand selecting her and how excited she is. Then how shes devoted to him. We know squad Levi has been together for a while now. The letter he recieved was a collection of happenings. He's a father and you will always see your child as someone who's a child. Even when they're adults. He even admits, father's can have trouble letting go. Now to mention marriage. Petra doesn't seem the type to just speak about something so serious willy nilly. In fact marriage only comes up when you're quite serious in a relationship. You talk about the future. We dont get Levi's eyes anymore... he's holding his grief on his face.

Theres nothing we can do about Petra now, but- Levi holds her memory.

Forward to Zeke "doubt you were well liked by the ladies considering how you think you know what everyone else is feeling."

Levi looks to the side "i do know. And I was liked enough. So."

When you look off to the side you are remembering. When you are loved by someone. It doesnt matter if everyone hates you, that one person caring was enough. He said it very sadly... he doesnt care because the one time was enough...

This has been my Ted talk. Theres more to this from a psychological p.o.v but im up for discussion.
