Nightlife Linocut (Stage Three)

Blimey, this is turning into a right palaver. Made duplicate windows, and carved them to start creating the window shadows/shapes etc. It’s looking like a complete mess and I’m getting a lot of weird looks in the studio. It won’t really look like anything until the very last layer… so holding out hope for then. On the next print run i might try and print the colour layers without waiting for the previous layer to dry to help them merge a bit (and also save time) let’s see! Shouldn’t be too long to go now. Well that’s what I’m telling myself anyway

I live in the UK but I really love your city, I just finished a fresh print run of my ‘San Francisco’ linocut. Hope you like it :)

After making duplicate windows, I’ve cut out the very small amounts of white and now made a colour chart and print plan for the first layer and gone ahead with a test print! The print plan is vital to not getting in an absolute muddle in the studio. It’s almost like paint by numbers at this stage. The result looks a bit crazy but hopefully it will start to come together as the subsequent layers are added. Now i need to cut a 3rd set of windows and cut out the next lightest parts of each window scene and then make my 2nd layer print plan. I’ve never done a linocut like this before!
