I qualify for Mexican citizenship but I’m applying for a federal job… could getting it screw me later?

My dad was born in Mexico and I’ve been getting everything together to finally register my Mexican citizenship.

Then something completely unrelated came up. I’m applying for a job that may eventually require a security clearance, and now I’m wondering if getting Mexican citizenship and a Mexican passport BEFORE that could make the clearance process more complicated.

I’m not trying to hide anything obviously. I’d disclose it. I just keep finding completely different answers online about dual citizenship, foreign passports and federal jobs and now I’m wondering if I should finish the Mexican citizenship process or wait until I know what’s happening with work.

Anyone here actually hold US/Mexico dual citizenship and work in a clearance/federal job? Did it create any issues for you?

What's the oldest family document you've had to track down for your Mexican citizenship application?

One thing I've learned is that claiming Mexican citizenship isn't always about proving you're eligible...

Sometimes it's about finding one document that your family hasn't seen in decades.

For some people, it's:

* A parent's Mexican birth certificate

* A marriage certificate

* A grandparent's old records

* A corrected birth certificate

* An apostilled U.S. document

Or even a document that no one in the family knew still existed.

I'm curious...

What was the hardest document for you to find?

* Did you eventually find it?

* Are you still searching?

* Did a family member unexpectedly save the day?

* What advice would you give someone who's just starting?

Every family's journey is different, and your experience could help the next person avoid months of frustration.
