Offer from Northrop Grumman
I wanted to hear your opinion on this.
I received an offer to work at Northrop Grumman, but the position will eventually require a Top Secret (TS) clearance. I currently hold a Secret clearance, which I obtained in 2024. Before that, I had a Confidential clearance.
I’m unsure whether I should accept the offer because I’m worried I might be considered a red flag during the TS investigation.
My ex-fiancée is a Mexican citizen and currently lives in Mexico. Last year, I traveled to Mexico five times to visit her. I originally met her in the United States because her parents have green cards and she came in using her US tourist visa. While we were together, I filed a K-1 visa petition for her, but after we ended the relationship, I withdrew the petition. We still talk occasionally to see if we can work things out and give the relationship another chance.
While we were together, she lost her job, and I supported her financially during that time. I also gave her a credit card to use, although it has since expired.
I’m concerned that the investigators may view this as foreign influence and deny my TS clearance. The position allows me to start with my current Secret clearance, but I will eventually need to upgrade to a TS. If I’m unable to obtain it, I could end up losing the job.
What do you think? Do you think this situation would be a significant concern during the TS clearance process?
