I love this show but I’m genuinely worried about Danny being locked into “Sam and Jason’s kid who can’t help but cause problems — it’s in his DNA” framing. That is such a waste of what Asher is doing with this role.
The boathouse scene with Rocco absolutely SENT me. Rocco standing up, calling out both Danny and Charlotte, threatening consequences, refusing to be pulled along — that was a full character moment and I was IN MY FEELINGS. He is no longer “the little guy” to me. That’s a Falconeri-Spencer, full stop. Hell yes.
But it also threw Danny into sharp relief. That look Danny gave Rocco — he’s made that face multiple times now, that blank “I don’t understand what you’re feeling and I won’t engage with it” look — and he’s aged out of being able to get away with it as a character beat. Especially standing next to Charlotte, who is written as worldly and calculating. She should be accelerating his emotional awareness, not enabling arrested development.
Here’s the thing: Danny has extraordinary lineage on paper.
• Sam — brilliant, resourceful, street-smart, quick
• Jason Q — golden boy energy, caring, passionate, protective
• Jason Morgan — fiercely protective, loyal, but operating as the end result of a traumatic brain injury
Danny doesn’t have Jason Morgan’s injury. He has no reason to be written as someone who genuinely cannot process consequences. Charlotte being “world smart” beside him makes it worse — it just reads as emotional vacancy, not compelling teen complexity.
Asher is clearly capable of more. Give Danny the arc! Let him reckon. The character has the parentage and the actor to carry something genuinely great for the entire “GH world” forward. Don’t you think? 🤔
