47 Years Ago Today

I saw AC/DC at the Century II Convention Center in Wichita, KS where I took this photo of the late great Bon Scott. Believe it or not, AC/DC was opening for Cheap Trick on this night. Needless to say, AC/DC blew Cheap Trick off the stage.

The “Zero” Demos

If you’ve never heard the Gene Simmons “Zero” demos, check them out. This is a fantastic collection of songs. Gene took them to NYC where they recorded these. Gene was trying to get Casablanca Records to sign Van Halen at this time. They passed on them and VH famously ended up with Warner Brothers and Ted Templeman.

I took all of the VH demos that became official album songs and made a playlist that plays the demo, then the album version. I love listening to the raw original version, then listening to what it became later.

When Van Halen was Van Halen

I took this photo 46 years ago this month in Wichita, KS at the Century II Convention Center. This photo was taken with a little pocket instamatic I snuck into the show.

I saw the Mighty Van Halen at the Kansas Coliseum in Wichita, KS where I took this picture of the late great Edward Van Halen. If you didn’t see this tour and would like to see what it was like, I’d suggest the Montreal bootleg that is available on YouTube. https://youtu.be/-90SPx6Xfwo?is=Y5eRa06NMyCsojI- It’s obviously a different perspective than I had from up front, but it’s a good documentation of the show.

Van Halen ‘80 Invasion Tour

Does anybody else remember when Dave used to stop the show and pretend somebody threw a joint onto the stage? I took these two photos on August 24th, 1980 at the Bicentennial Center in Salina, KS.
