Downtown Hotels
I've been watching HGTV’s ‘Home Town: Inn This Together’. Watching the team transition an old Kress Department store in Laurel, Mississippi has me hopeful for what might happen with the Edgewater and the planned boutique hotel.
I have no idea what is going to happen with The Edgewater Hotel, but would be cool if it keeps it's link to the past and uplifted to match the quality of what I'm seeing HGTV.

These opportunities don't come around often.
For me the greatest opportunity the city can do to improve and protect the economic activity and character of the community is to initiate the Dillard Street project and expand the historic district.
Dillard Street traffic calming, landscaping and sidewalks will improve economic activity, safety and provide a more accessible connection to east Winter Garden.
The current historic district is way too small. There are additional homes south of Plant and east of Dillard that should be saved that can only be accomplished by expanding the historic district. Even with an expansion it doesn't guarantee older homes will be protected, but it gives the lovable older homes a chance.
I thought I read that this was going in alongside Harlow Grove, downtown. However, I think this location near Sizzlin Greens works, too.
