Please someone, anyone, give me something to do
I started a new gig about 4 weeks ago as a help desk tech (a step down, but not a big one, and desperate times). I've been here for about 5 hours today, and I've done maybe 30 minutes worth of work. Maybe.
Here are some things I've tried doing to keep myself occupied:
* Find something to do: The org is large enough that permissions are pretty limited. The only thing resembling work I have access to is organize our inventory
* Powershell in a month of lunches: wants PS7 and VS Code, but I'm not on the approved user list for them, so I'll be fired if I install them. Who can I talk to about changing this? The director of the department, apparently.
* Python: again, not on the approved user list, fired, director
* MS certs: the beginner certs cover material I already know, and the intermediate certs look to cover parts of entra/Intune/etc I don't have access to, so I guess I'm not sure what the point would be.
* SentinelOne: if I'm reading their website correctly, I think the company would have to pay for me to get access to the learning platform. I don't do anything with S1, so I doubt they would
* SAP certs: I'm so locked out of this part of the company I don't even know what products we use.
* Play chess: Ive played so many games today I'm making silly mistakes and getting frustrated
* Read: all caught up on my webcomics and manga, and not finding anything on libby I want to read.
What other platforms do we use? 🤷 There's nothing else in the onenote the help desk uses for documentation, so I don't know.
I'm reluctant to talk to anyone about this because I'd like to avoid the awkward conversation of "I genuinely don't know why this position was open, also, please don't fire me for being clearly redundant"
