Decisions decisions

Hello! I’m 26 and really want to go to grad school. Reasons for this 1) I genuinely enjoy school. 2) get better jobs in regard to pay. I graduated with Honors in political science and have been working in the service industry ever since. The schedule is flexible, I make great money and I genuinely am a people person so this has been a great career for me so far, but now I want to pursue work that is more rewarding.

I got in to George Washington (media strategy and communications) and American (political communications) in DC, however, I’m having a difficult time deciding whether or not to go and to which one. I’m from a lower-middle class family and would be taking on about $80,000 in debt from either university. Part of me is very worried that by starting down this path, this amount of debt and the intensity of career after that will not allow me to travel. There are so many places and things I want to do before taking on debt and starting a career. Will I still be able to? Does anyone have experience with this?

I think I would really love living in DC. My boyfriend is a chef and I think he would really love it there too. We like to be outside, are both big skiers (we can miss out on that for a couple years), enjoy camping, softball, basketball, and wining and dining. We’re very social, love to go out and see live music. Is DC going to be a good fit for us?

Which school do you think is better-if either? I’m not someone who is going to be so invested in campus life, likely focusing on my life outside of work and school as much as I can allow myself while still being successful. I like how American is so helpful and has many resources for students. GWU seems a lot more hands off but its proximity to the heart of the city is appealing.

Edit: is Grad school worth taking on all this debt?

I don’t know what to do. Any insight is appreciated.
