the channel outreach is confusing me - discussion
Yo, so i wanna state that I love Watcher and all the stuff they make. I've been watching them since they were first on BuzzFeed, and I'm a huge fan. (I even have a tattoo of The Professor)
But does it seem like they're sorta treading water a little bit in regards to channel promotion and outreach?
Like they don't exist in a vacuum, they're very much in a similar boat to Smosh, 2nd Try (the Try Guys), and Dropout. But while those companies have clearly expanded quite a bit in not just their content, but in their marketing and outreach, it feels like Watcher really hasn't?
I think they're doing well as far as making interesting content goes, and it's VERY clear that they themselves want to diversify their creative endeavors. So I don't want to shade that at all.
But it feels like they're very insular and isolated, their promotions for new shows and content is only brought up in their own videos. They don't collaborate much with outside creators who have large fanbases that would clearly have overlap, if the fans of those channels were exposed to their stuff.
Doing an episode on Smosh Beopardy to promote The Quizard's Pit or Puppet History
Puppet History collaborating with other history channels like Tasting History with Max Miller, Kaz Rowe, Jessica Kellgren-Fozard, and so on
Or just collaborating with other relevant YouTubers in general
Strange Aeons would be amazing, since she covers a lot of Tumblr history and the ghoul boy fandom was BIG on Tumblr
The Perfect Person Podcast with Miles Bonsignore, they could do a paranormal episode or just a regular one
Smosh Reddit Stories for a Halloween, or travel, or history, or whatever theme.
I genuinely think they make amazing stuff, and I want them to succeed. But why does it almost feel like THEY don't believe in their own company? Like, idk but sometimes it feels like they're growing to resent the niche they've carved out for themselves as a bickering duo. But I genuinely think the audience would welcome a change in their dynamic depending on the content, and would appreciate seeing them in new, unique circumstances.
A good example for what I'm talking about is Quizard's Pit, I watch the main channel all the time and had no idea it existed. I just stumbled across it one day. And it's good! But it has like, pretty low viewership on YouTube for their overall Internet presence.
Sorry Abt the rant, but yeah, just wondering if this is just me. Or if anyone else feels the same at all?
