Court Acquits Yoga Teacher In Rape Case Of US National After Complainant Fails To Testify And Medical Evidence Remains Inconclusive

A man faced a serious rape case for years, but the trial ended in acquittal because the complainant did not come to court and the medical evidence did not clearly prove sexual assault. This case shows how a man’s name, career, dignity and life can remain under the shadow of grave allegations unless the prosecution proves the case with reliable evidence before the court.

Failure Of Relationship Is Not Rape: Allahabad High Court Quashes False Promise Of Marriage Case Against Man

Allahabad High Court quashed the rape case after finding that a 5-year relationship between two educated adults was consensual and later turned sour. The man was dragged into serious criminal proceedings under Section 376 IPC despite no timely complaint, no injury, vague allegations without clear date, time or place, and material showing that the relationship continued by choice. The Court made it clear that criminal law cannot be used to punish a man merely because marriage did not happen or a relationship failed.

Magistrate Cannot Reject Negative Final Report Solely Based On Woman’s Protest Petition: Rajasthan High Court Quashes Cognizance In Rape Case

A serious rape case was pushed forward despite the police filing a negative Final Report, but the Rajasthan High Court stepped in and quashed the cognizance. The Court made it clear that a woman’s protest petition cannot become a shortcut to drag men into criminal trial without proper reasons. When investigation shows doubts, delay, silence, continued association and no clear material of coercion, courts cannot ignore it mechanically. This case shows how one unreasoned order can put men under the shadow of arrest, stigma and trial, until a higher court finally reminds the system that allegations are not evidence and due process is not optional.

Wife Is Highly Educated And Earns 60K/Month, Husband's Higher Salary Not a Blank Cheque: Delhi Court Declines Woman's Maintenance Plea

Earning ₹60,000 Was Not Enough? Delhi Court Refuses Maintenance Plea Against Husband Earning ₹1 Lakh.

For years, many men have faced the assumption that earning more automatically makes them financially liable, regardless of the other spouse's earning capacity.

This Delhi court ruling challenges that mindset by recognizing that a qualified, employed individual earning ₹60,000 a month is capable of supporting herself.

The judgment reinforces a principle often ignored in matrimonial litigation: maintenance is meant to prevent genuine hardship, not reward financial opportunism or penalize one spouse simply for earning more.

Wife’s Demand For Enhanced Maintenance After Death Of Husband Not Permissible: Bombay High Court Says Only Existing Arrears Recoverable From Estate

A man may have passed away, but the legal battle over his estate continued. The divorced wife sought not just the maintenance already awarded to her, but an increase in the amount years after the husband's death. The Bombay High Court stepped in and ruled that while existing maintenance dues and arrears can be recovered from the deceased husband's estate, legal heirs cannot be dragged into fresh litigation seeking enhanced maintenance after his death.

Wife Cannot Invoke Senior Citizens Act To Seek Maintenance Against Husband Who Is Also A Senior Citizen; Karnataka High Court Quashes Joint Katha Order

The Karnataka High Court held that a wife cannot invoke the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 to seek maintenance or property-related relief against her husband when he is also a senior citizen. The Court clarified that the Act is meant to protect elderly persons from neglect by their children and specified relatives, not to resolve matrimonial disputes between spouses. It also ruled that authorities under the Act cannot ignore civil court decisions or exceed their limited jurisdiction, ultimately setting aside the joint katha orders passed in favour of the wife.

Convenience Of Wife Cannot Be Applied Mechanically: P&H High Court Refuses To Transfer Husband's Divorce Petition

The Punjab and Haryana High Court declined the wife's request to transfer her husband's divorce case from Amritsar to Hoshiarpur, holding that inconvenience alone cannot justify shifting matrimonial proceedings. Finding no genuine hardship and noting that the wife appeared to be professionally active, the Court observed that her plea of inability to travel "does not inspire confidence." It further noted that the 150-kilometre distance between the two cities could be covered within two to three hours and dismissed the transfer petition.

A father who told the court that he was already struggling with financial difficulties, carrying debts of around ₹20 lakh and had even provided a house worth about ₹50 lakh for his wife and daughters, ultimately found himself facing an even larger financial burden. Consensual Relationship Cannot Become Statutory Rape Without Proof of Minority: J&K&L High Court

A love affair that led to pregnancy eventually turned into a rape prosecution, sending a young man to prison for eight years. However, the J&K and Ladakh High Court found that the very foundation of the conviction was missing. While the prosecutrix admitted that she had voluntarily accompanied the accused and was in a consensual relationship with him, the prosecution failed to conclusively prove that she was a minor at the time of the incident. Holding that an unverified school certificate could not establish age beyond reasonable doubt, the Court set aside the conviction, observing that what began as a relationship between two young persons had ultimately resulted in a criminal prosecution and an unjust conviction.

India still treats marriage as a social contract, not a financial one, so prenuptial agreements have no clear statutory backing. Courts may consider them as evidence, but they’re not binding like in jurisdictions such as the US or UK.

In an era of rising divorces, high-value disputes, and misuse of matrimonial laws, shouldn’t consenting adults have the right to define financial terms before marriage? Why should separation automatically trigger prolonged litigation over alimony, assets, and liabilities?

A legally enforceable prenup could reduce false claims, ensure transparency, and protect both parties. The real question is, are we ready to treat marriage as both an emotional and legal contract?

What’s your view?
