so to preface this XG have all japanese members. they defined themselves as X-POP not kpop or j-pop. However, in order to launch their career they used kpop marketing channels to gain visibility towards global kpop fans. they went on k-music shows, learnt to speak korean and did variety shows.
however, the genius with not defining themselves as k-pop is that they aren't fully defined by korean idol standards when it comes to making music. they were adament on day 1 that they wanted to make songs in full english (not korean or japanese), they also perfected in their english pronounciations where people were actually stunned only 1 member had native-level english.
i love xdinaryheroes and their korean songs, but i imagined an alternate timeline where they did something similar (using kpop to launch their careers but differentiating themselves from other k groups, k-bands and even J-BANDS as something incredibly different) - using kpop as a stepping stone but eventually breaking free from that label someday.
