Need honest advice: HKU Biomed vs CUHK Science for long-term career prospects
Hi everyone, I’m an international student currently deciding between two offers:
- HKU Biomedical Sciences (likely interested in the bioinformatics/data-related side) (full-tuition)
- CUHK Science (possibly maths/stats route) (full tuition + allowance)
I’ve been struggling a lot with this decision because both paths seem to lead to very different futures.
My main concerns are:
- long-term employability
- flexibility of career options
- internship opportunities
- chances of working outside Hong Kong after graduation
- financial stability
- workload and student stress levels
- campus/social environment
- whether students regret choosing one over the other
I know HKU has stronger international prestige and I’m genuinely interested in biology/bioinformatics, but I’m also worried about career uncertainty in biotech/life sciences compared to a quantitative degree like maths/stats.
I would really appreciate honest perspectives from current students or graduates from either university/programme — especially regarding internships, graduate outcomes, student life, and whether you felt your degree gave you enough flexibility after graduation. I just do not want to regret my decision in the future.
Thank you :)
