Sentry’s direction after the original run

I decided to get into Sentry comics recently and I loved the 2000 comic and its conclusion in Sentry/Void. I thought that the worldwide memory suppression was really cool and the mystery was intriguing and gripping throughout. I’m now reading New Avengers (2005) and I’m not really liking the character’s direction here. It seems like they’re ignoring a lot of what was built in the original run, with Cloc, the memory suppression device (which has been replaced by a psychic trick by the general and mastermind), dr. Strange’s mysterious knowledge of Sentry and his past, Sentry’s friendships with Richards, Hulk, Spider-Man, Charles Xavier, etc. going unmentioned so far. Does this change, or is his character essentially rebooted in New Avengers and onwards? Should I stick with it and keep reading? Thanks. I’m sorry if this is a dumb post since I haven’t finished New Avengers, but I’m not sure if I want to keep reading for sentry if they do rewrite a lot of his character.
