Assessment of 4th Edition Psionics

I last really played during 2nd edition and the beginning of Dark Sun. Recently I was reading the 4th edition Psionic Power handbook. I did not get far, reading about the Ardent was really cool. Then I saw there were at will powers that could be boosted - the whole mechanics of it is still new to me. However, i'm curious about the balance it all brings.

Anyone actually play the classes and have insight on their balance?

Follow-up, just looking at Ardent, creating a streamlined version with only the powers presented seems feasible too. This reduces complexity, but the cost of how much ability? I need to read more, but if you have an experience based opinion please share.

It really doesn't matter what version I plan to play as I may never actually play again. I've done a few solo adventures for fun and turned it into mostly narrative based play. That may be why I like the Ardent so much, narratively rich and the at will powers really reflect what I'd like to see in immersive play.

DDEP 4 Reclamation of Phlan Timeline

The actual adventure states the following 'She reappeared in DDEX3-7' and 'was first encountered in DDEX3-3' and 'played out across the third season of D&D Expeditions'. This really throws me because I've spent my time reading and enjoying the first season of expeditions and the DDEP 4 is a great finale. I have spent no time in seasons 2 or 3 and I really don't want to have to know those, or even worse ruin them as future adventures. So, what's going on here and does anyone have some input on handling this without the burden of reading through those seasons and ruining the ability for players to play them later?
