6" mini rack (switch + patch panel) in 5.25 bay
I already had this old tower running as my primary Proxmox node, but the rack was a separate thing next to it. So I printed a mount that slots into the 5.25" bay of the case itself, which keeps everything in one box. It's my secondary 1G rack, with a patch panel and a 5-port switch on the front so the WAN from the router and the access point land cleanly instead of hanging behind the desk.
What's running:
- router/WAN into the switch
- access point
- NAS on TrueNAS — A8-6600K, 8GB DDR3
- primary Proxmox (this box) — i5-6400, 8GB DDR4
- secondary Proxmox — 1700X, 8GB DDR4
Airflow goes through the vented side panel, so the switch doesn't cook in there. And the part I'm happy about: the Proxmox node plus router and switch pull under 40W together, measured at the wall.
