I built a tool to preview og tags on localhost because I was tired of deploying just to check a whatsapp and other social media card

honestly built this out of frustration more than anything

I kept doing this thing where id make a change to my meta tags, deploy, check whatsapp, something's off, fix it locally, deploy again. over and over. opengraph(dot)xyz doesnt work on localhost obviously so I was just stuck in that loop forever

so I built getlinkpeek.com

it does a client side fetch so you can literally paste localhost:3000 and see your link preview on whatsapp, twitter, linkedin, slack, discord all at once. nothing leaves your browser. no ngrok, no tunnel, no nonsense

also added an audit that tells you whats wrong in plain english. not just "og:image missing" but like "your image is too large for whatsapp" or "wrong aspect ratio for twitter" with actual fixes

its free, open source - github.com/Kedar200/Link-preview

still early days, would love any feedback. especially curious if the localhost thing is useful for others or if its just a me problem lol

spent 3 months sharing links with a broken whatsapp preview and had no idea

found out the hard way lol

a friend finally told me my homepage was showing up as a blank card on whatsapp. no image, no title, just a grey box with a url. I had been sharing this link in investor chats, customer conversations, everywhere. for months.

coolest part? I built a tool that fixes exactly this problem and my own site had a broken preview. the irony is not lost on me

anyway the tool is getlinkpeek.com

you paste any url and it shows you exactly how it looks on whatsapp, twitter, linkedin, slack, discord all at once. like actual pixel perfect mockups not just a tag list. and it tells you whats wrong in plain english with fixes

the thing im most proud of is the localhost support. no other tool does this. your dev can paste localhost:3000 and see live previews while still building. no deploying, no ngrok, nothing

its free and open source - github.com/Kedar200/Link-preview

if youre sharing links as part of any pitch or outreach just check it once. you might be in the same situation I was and not even know it
