Can I comfortably use a MacBook Air with a 1080p external monitor?

Hello everyone! I’m thinking about buying a 13-inch MacBook Air M5. I’ve never owned a MacBook before.

I already have a Huawei 1080p external monitor. Will it work well with a MacBook Air for programming and everyday use?

I’ve read many comments saying that macOS only looks good on 4K displays, and now I’m worried about eye strain and text clarity. Unfortunately, I can’t afford to buy a new monitor right now.

What has your experience been like using a MacBook with a regular 1080p monitor?

MacBook Air M5 as a main device

Hello everyone! I’m thinking about buying a 13-inch MacBook Air M5 with 24GB RAM and a 1TB SSD.

I’m a frontend developer, and sometimes I also do full-stack development. I often use IDEs/code editors such as Cursor and PhpStorm, Figma, and occasionally Docker. I also use Claude Code and Codex quite a lot.

I’ve never owned a MacBook before — I’ve used Windows my whole life. But now I want to try switching to macOS. I like the MacBook Air because it’s lightweight and relatively affordable. Most of the time, I work from home with an external monitor and keyboard.

Do you think the 13-inch MacBook Air M5 would be enough as my main work device, or should I consider getting a MacBook Pro instead?
