Big Cannabis news

The Star Tribune confirmed the story a few days ago that ANANG Native Cannabis Co.’s third retail space will open next door to Fond-du-Luth Casino.  The DNT and NNN followed a day later. Pine Knot first broke the news in February.

The tribes are the biggest players in the state, behind the medical MSOs, and this will be the 9th retail location in the city. Tribes and medical dispensaries have different rules than the rest of the licensees, so they are not impacted by Duluth’s decision to arbitrarily cap the number of businesses that can retail in the city.  The 7 retail locations will now have to compete against the medical MSO, Vireo, that bought Grandma’s Miller Hill location and the Fond Duluth Lac Band.

Tribes, while on tribal land, can grow as much as they’d like, don’t have to submit to OCM quality or safety testing, don’t pay any state or local taxes, and are not subject to local delivery bans, like the one in Duluth. (24-056-O 8A-5(d)(1)) So customers that don’t want to travel downtown, the tribe can deliver to them at home.

The new ANANG location is set to open its doors on April 20, 2027, according to Fox21 news. >!420!!<
