Would running a apk download link through virus total enough?

Long story but months ago I downloaded an apk file from the official GitHub for my android gaming device. Ran malwarebytes after downloading all good.
However I recently ran malwarebytes again connected to the internet and it flagged it as a virus. I of course immediately deleted the application and ran two more scans and it came back clear. Curious I found the exact version of the application I downloaded and copied the url download link into virus total and it came back completely green and clear.
Would virus total not able to detect a virus if it’s not just the file itself? I naturally don’t want to re download it.
If it can I’m assuming it was a false positive from malwarebytes? Thanks to anyone who replies!

How to scan an apk file without downloading it is the download link enough?

Basically as the title says I want to scan an apk file without well downloading it. I put the direct apk file link without downloading it into virus total and nothing popped up. Is this enough to trust the download? I’m asking cause I did indeed download the file and malwarebytes marked the file as a virus and I of course deleted it immediately unfortunately no longer have the file in my downloads and don’t want to re download it. It would be for a gaming application called gamehub lite. Thanks!

I am concerned does malwarebytes have false positives?

So I downloaded gamehub lite on my android device from the official source. When I scanned with malwarebytes it stated it was a virus. I of course deleted it re scanned and it stated it was good. What should I do now to protect my device? Thanks!
