🚨 11 MISSING CHILDREN RECOVERED IN GEORGIA 🚨

🚨 11 MISSING CHILDREN RECOVERED IN GEORGIA 🚨

This is the kind of news we LOVE to share.

Eleven missing children have been recovered in Georgia as part of an international law enforcement operation targeting human trafficking.

Operation “Global Chain” brought together the Georgia Attorney General’s Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit, FBI, INTERPOL, EUROPOL, AMERIPOL and state and local law enforcement agencies in a coordinated effort to locate victims and combat human trafficking.

Among those recovered was a 16-year-old girl whose case has now resulted in criminal charges.

According to the Georgia Attorney General’s Office, 36-year-old Eric Gordon of Decatur has been indicted in Fulton County on one count of Trafficking of Persons for Sexual Servitude involving a minor. Gordon was taken into custody on August 4. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

The operation took place June 8–12 and resulted in the recovery of 11 missing children in Georgia alone.

👏 To every investigator, officer, agent and agency involved in bringing these children to safety: THANK YOU.

And let this serve as an important reminder to all of us:

Missing children cannot be forgotten.
Keep sharing their pictures.
Keep reporting suspicious activity.
Keep paying attention.
Keep looking.

Sometimes that share, that tip, or that person who refuses to stop looking can help bring a child home.

🙏 Tonight, 11 missing Georgia children have been found. That is something worth celebrating.

🍕🚨 END OF AN ERA? 🚨🍕

For many of us, Pizza Hut wasn’t just a pizza place—it was birthday parties, Little League celebrations, Book It! rewards, and Friday nights with the family.

Now, after years of struggling to keep up with changing consumer habits and the rise of food delivery apps like DoorDash and Uber Eats, Pizza Hut is being sold in a massive $2.7 BILLION deal. Parent company Yum! Brands announced this week that the iconic chain will be sold after declining sales and the closure of hundreds of locations across the United States. (According to AP News)

At its peak, Pizza Hut was the king of pizza. But as consumers shifted away from dine-in restaurants and toward delivery-focused options, competitors like Domino’s gained ground while Pizza Hut struggled to adapt. Earlier this year, the company announced plans to close approximately 250 underperforming locations nationwide. (According to AP News)

The big question now:
🍕 Will new ownership bring Pizza Hut back to its former glory?
🍕 Will we ever see a true comeback of the classic red-roof Pizza Huts?
🍕 And does anyone else miss the lunch buffet?

Tell us your favorite Pizza Hut memory in the comments. 👇

🏓 FROM BIG LOTS TO PICKLEBALL? 🏓

The former Big Lots building on Gunbarrel Road in Chattanooga is getting a new life as a Pickleball Kingdom facility.

Instead of sitting vacant, the large retail space is being repurposed into an indoor recreation center, giving residents a place to play one of the fastest-growing sports in America while bringing new activity to a building that otherwise may have remained empty.

As more big-box retailers close across the country, communities are being forced to think creatively about how to reuse these large commercial spaces.

That raises a question for Dalton and Whitfield County:

🤔 Would you support something similar here?

Should vacant retail buildings be transformed into recreation centers, indoor sports complexes, family entertainment venues, community spaces, or other creative uses instead of sitting empty?

What would YOU like to see go into some of the vacant retail properties around our area?

QUESTIONS SURROUNDING DALTON’S PROPOSED ALCOHOL ORDINANCE

The City of Dalton, GA - City Hall recently heard the first reading of Ordinance 26-12, which would make significant changes to the city’s alcohol licensing rules.

The timing has raised questions in the community……

As many residents know, Déjà Vu’s alcohol license was revoked by the City of Dalton. Following that action, the business was reportedly sold to the owner’s son, who then applied for a new alcohol license. According to information available, that application was submitted before the first reading of the proposed ordinance.

The proposed changes would expand the circumstances under which an applicant could be disqualified from obtaining an alcohol license.
Some community members have long argued that the former owner mwas subjected to targeted enforcement by city administration and law enforcement, while others believe the city was simply enforcing existing regulations.

Now residents are asking:
❓ Is Ordinance 26-12 a reasonable policy change designed to close loopholes?

❓ Or does the timing create the appearance that the rules are being changed in the middle of an active application process?

❓ Should a new owner be evaluated on their own qualifications if they have no ownership or partnership ties to the previous license holder?

We want to hear from the people…..
Do you believe this ordinance is good public policy, or do you have concerns about the timing and its potential impact?

DATA CENTER BONDS APPROVED BY COURT

🚨🚨 UPDATE: DATA CENTER BONDS APPROVED BY COURT 🚨

Today, a judge signed off on bond validation documents related to the proposed data center project in Whitfield County.

According to reports from the courthouse, the hearing was brief, and the bond validation moved forward after prior approvals by local governing authorities.

Many residents have expressed confusion about what exactly was approved.

Here’s what we know:
✅ The bonds are intended to help finance the data center project.
✅ The company utilizing the project is expected to repay the bonds—not local taxpayers directly.
✅ The court’s role was to determine whether the bond issuance met legal requirements.

❓ Questions that many citizens continue to ask:
• What tax incentives are being provided?
• What protections exist if the project fails?
• How much water and power will be required?
• What long-term impact will the project have on Whitfield County?
• What are the projected jobs and economic benefits?

One thing is clear: this is one of the largest economic development projects ever proposed in our area, and residents on all sides deserve transparency and answers.
Whitfield Watchman 2.0 will continue following the developments and providing updates as information becomes available.
What are your thoughts on the project? Support it? Oppose it? Still have questions?
