Experience (5 Months in, 9mg)
Hi all! I wanted to share my experience. When I first started with the pill I wasn’t able to find many positive posts from other people on the actual pill (most people seem to do the shot) so I thought this could be helpful to someone!
Stats: Mid-30s female / 5’8 Tall / SW: 258lbs / CW: 232lbs / GW: 170lbs
For context: I grew up thin, but around 19 years old I began putting on significant weight each year. I went through some hardships that year, and life kept throwing curveballs at me. For a long time food was the highlight of my life. As I gained weight I would try diets, lose maybe 10lbs, and then lose steam and gain it all back (plus more).
First two months: I took 1.25mg for Month 1, lost 10lbs. I then took 4mg for a month, lost 9lbs. During those months I didn’t change my exercise habits, yet the weight dropped right off me. I went from eating 3 fast food meals a day to eating 2 fast food meals that I couldn’t finish. My bowl movements went from loose and watery to solid and normal. For the first time ever I wasn’t constantly craving my next take out meal. I truly believe I was “addicted” to fast food before this. I thought about it constantly and was only trying to figure out when my next drive-thru could be.
Month 3: My prescriber kept me on 4mg since I was doing so well on it. My weight plateaued and I stopped losing (though didn’t gain). I felt a little more hungry than before, but would supplement by drinking protein smoothies in the morning. I started to have severe constipation. No changes in my weight, so I tried swapping my fast food meals for healthier options (ex: grilled nuggets and fruit from Chick Fil A instead of a Big Mac from McDonalds). Still no movement on the scale, and constipation got really, really bad.
Month 4: My prescriber told me to take 4 magnesium citrate gummies a day. My bowels started working again! I started the month on 4mg but once my bowel movements became more normal I upped to 9mg. Weight loss resumed! I also stopped craving fast food, besides the occasional craving (such as someone in my office eating it). I started ordering protein smoothies from the local coffee shop for breakfast, adding veggies to every meal at home. I lost 6lbs in the last 2-ish weeks of the month!
Month 5: Just started month 5 a couple weeks ago. I’ve found myself constantly thirsty, and since I no longer crave soda I drink water almost all day long. My joints are feeling better (I tore my ACL and MCL a long time ago, and they used to flare up with pain). This is going to sound crazy, but my vision also improved. I need a weaker prescription now and honestly just feel like I’m seeing better. It could be unrelated, but it’s a great feeling! I also have more energy and am walking every evening (followed by a cup of green tea).
My takeaway: I know everyone’s experience is different, and just because my experience has been mostly positive doesn’t mean yours will be. That said I wanted to encourage those considering the pill to at least talk to their doctor about it. It has changed my life in so many ways. Even if I were to stop losing weight (which I doubt I will) it really helped quiet the “food noise” that had been consuming me for my entire adult life.
