If AI is replacing software engineers, why are jobs still being posted?

I’m curious to hear more about this. Even at some of the AI labs, SWE jobs are being posted. Jobs for startups are still being posted, big tech still has software engineering jobs posted, etc.

And the job descriptions are similar to what was there pre-AI boom.

What gives?

How to soften hard water in apartment complex?

Hey all,

I live in an apartment building near the Domain and for as long as I can remember, I’ve had a hard water problem in my building. Since it’s an apartment building, I can’t put in a full-fledged water softener at the supply for my unit / floor.

I’ve noticed my hair starting to thin and I’m absolutely sure part of it is the water quality in showering with. I’d like to filter and soften the water in my apartment, but don’t know how.

Has anyone dealt with hard water in their apartment? Any recommendations on how to soften it?

Thanks!

Insane Attrition, what gives?

Has any one noticed the massive exodus of senior talent recently? Understandably, the May vest hit a month or so ago and people are more likely to move around or move out, I’ve seen that happen every year I’ve been here.

But this year in particular has been brutal. Lot of red badges have left, yellow badges with 7+ years under their belt, gone. Directors and senior managers, gone. Etc.

What’s going on? Seeing so much tenured staff leaving for competitors makes me question they know something I don’t.

I’m on the AWS side of the business.

Finger pointing

Anyone else tired of all the finger pointing that happens at Amazon? I feel like we spend more time shifting blame than actually doing work. Raising COEs for no reason, throwing partner teams under the bus, never taking accountability, etc.

Writing doc after doc about why something went wrong and having to deal with massive escalations for very little errors.

Comparing this to other companies where blame isn’t thrown but processes are improved, I’m getting really exhausted by the blame culture at Amazon.

It makes for a place where people are afraid to innovate and take risks because the consequence of being wrong far outweighs the benefits of being right on a bold bet.

Amazon wasn’t always like this, at least not this bad.

Anyone else tired of this?

Burnout

Given the pace and demand of data center construction and deployment, without a doubt burnout is something to keep an eye out for.

Curious to hear how you all are dealing with burnout in this wildly fast paced industry, and what roles you’re currently in.

Hi all,

Does anyone have any thoughts to share about FluidStack? Numerous recruiters have reached out inviting me to apply and they seem to be selling the company as the next best thing.

With so many recruiters from FluidStack / recruiting agencies, I am mildly skeptical. Either they really are as great as they say they are, they are severely understaffed and need people quickly meaning bad work life balance, or it’s a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

Any thoughts on this company? Not sure what to make of it. They seemed to have poached quite a bit of talent from the hyper scalers, so there’s that to consider too.

Particularly for Design Engineering.

TIA!
