Workplace violation/held against my will while in need of medical attention.
Hello!
I have some questions back in October of 2021 I worked at a chain burger restaurant est. I worked in the kitchen as a line cook. I was wiping down a knife and my finger was slit and bleeding non stop for over 20 minutes. I immediately told a manger on duty. We went into the office and we called a nurse hotline for workers injury to report. Nurses said due to the size and the duration of non stop bleeding I needed medical attention and advised i go to hospital ER (it was a weekend after 5pm so no urgent cares/concentras were open). The manager (shift supervisor) on staff then called the head manager of the restaurant and she instructed him on the phone (office speaker so I heard it all) not to let me leave and said that we needed to wait until she gets there. They basically made me wait in the office holding my finger still bleeding with towels about 20 minutes or more while the manager who was not working at all that date drove from her house to the restaurant. Once she arrived she screamed at me and demanded I explained what happened while standing in the doorway of the office blocking the entrance (again still in need of urgent medical care as advised by a nurse) then after making me explain what happened she reprimanded me and told me how it’ll cost the company over $1000 dollars because of me then gave me permission to go to the hospital and then moved from the door way. I then drove myself to the ER and had to get stitches in my finger and was out of work for a week. I was Never compensated for the time I was out of work but was out of work due to a work injury. Is there anything legally that can be done here as the basically held me hostage while I was in need of medical care?
Thanks in advance
