Outgoing Irving School Board hires new superintendent with no classroom experience, conducted no external search

The Irving ISD Board of Trustees, without doing an external search, has hired the chief of staff of current superintendent Magda Hernandez, who is retiring at the end of 2026.

Two new board members will be sworn in later this month. They will not have had a say in who runs the district, even though the new superintendent will not take over until January 2027, and will report to them.

The candidate who was chosen, solely through a closed, internal process, has no classroom or principal experience. Irving has a C ranking as a district, with at least 17 schools ranked at an F or D level. But its status quo moving forward.

If I was a teacher, parent or tax payer in the Irving ISD, I would be outraged.
