Son and I went full send!

I originally played in wave 1 and sold out before 2 because the community died before it could really get started. Glad to see the game and my local community surging well. So when my Warhammer playgroup decided to move provinces and I sold all my stuff.... My son and I went into the store to find a new game that we can start together. He chose Legion. Which made me happy.

I already preordered Mandalorians so it's kind of a sigh of relief. I just thought the would be a cool art price. But now with a fistfull of cash fresh from a sold space marine collection we cleared out the local store.

I really wanted to play republic, but no starter in stock. (I ended up finding one online and ordered it) And he wants to play asap so he convinced me to play rebels so we can have a Luke vs Vader fight as soon as possible.

So I guess we will have 4 factions of stuff by the end of June?

Both starters are now built. And we will goto a pickup game this weekend with the local community. First base coats are blocked in on the rebel commandos.

Lets roll some dice!!!

What other kits should we grab with the remaining $200 we got left in Canadian dollars for his imperials? He wants dark troopers for sure.

Picked up my new Futura RD custom today! I grabbed it 30 minutes before practice so it got a trial by fire. I owned a 77 custom RD which I sold about 11 years ago when we were moving. It's great to have this body style back for a reasonable price with the right neck length!

Emotions and thoughts in chronological order:

Unboxed and inspected: wow this thing is lighter than I thought it would be. I haven't weighed it but damn it feels super light.

No glaring build quality issues. Fit and finish was really good. Bridge seems very high.

Colour is way nicer in person. The chrome pickup rings that I didn't like in photos actually look great. The purple blue shift is so bloody cool.

Gig bag sucks. Yorkville doesn't make a hard case for the RD or the Firebird. Tried an explorer/V case and it's way too big. Opted not to grab it. Gonna try a few cars I have at home and hope. Worst case I get the explorer case and use dense pluck foam. I won't be gigging this guitar until I get a proper case.

Got to practice first. Threw my new strap on, and instant neck drive. My apologizes for someone I told on here that the RD doesn't dive. I owned a 77 and s good friend has a 78 and neither dived. They were nearly perfectly balanced. This...this is not.

Bridge was super high. Played well, but action was to the sky. I dropped that bridge 4 whole turns and it wasn't fretting out through the amp.

This neck is great!!! The shape is thinner expected and that compound radius is awesome. I love the ebony board and stainless frets! Its so smooth easy to play!

Pickups were decent. Brighter than I thought they would be a very high output. My amps were definately driven harder compared to my Gibson LP 60s standard. I normally have a Crowther hot cake pushing my amps into a very mild pushed drive sound, then stack 2 other drives for different gain stages. The RD almost replaced a gain stage. While the pickups do sound very good, and I'm definitely impressed compared to my last experience buying a new epiphone 15+ years ago, I do feel the neck pickup is cold and lacking in life. Its a very sterile sounding pickup. The bridge is growly and focused.

The switching modes are so much fun and there are a shit ton of tones in this guitar! I really liked bridge pickup in humbucker mode, neck in single, and out of phase. All tones felt very usable.

Overall its blast to play and really impressed for the price!

I think I am going to swap pickups out sooner than later. I've been wanting to try out Seymour Duncan hades gates. Mostly because of how sterile that neck pickup is. Gonna throw some 9-42 on it and do a setup this week and see how it sounds with the lighter strings and pickup height adjustments before I swap pickups.

For the neck dive I'm gonna grab some tire weights and stick them to the back of the electronics cavity cover. See if adding a couple of ounces will help balance the guitar out.

Pretty excited about this guitar. My Les Paul is my primary guitar for this blues rock band, but I will definitely be using this epi RD for some gigs. It was never bought to really be a part of the rotation with this band. It was just to get an RD back in the collection.

For $1,299 Canadian it's a phenomenal deal.
