I was struggling a bit to get over that 2M DPS mark in the beginning since my rotation wasn't optimal at all. With a few tips, I am seeing improvements and I can still do a bit better. I can now confidently say that he isn't underwhelming by any means and it's just that the rotation isn't as straight forward as imagined and takes time to master.

Was playing through the recent chapter stages when I came across this one where you are locked into Bankai Ichigo alone to fight off against Panthera Grimmjow. Did get my ass kicked slightly but this was a fun boss fight.
