4 years into college and suddenly told I can’t continue my major
I’m a 4th-year student at Baruch College majoring in Computer Science, and I honestly don’t know what to do right now.
Yesterday, I got a email saying that I don’t meet the entrance requirements for the Computer Science major because I didn’t get the minimum grade of B. Baruch also doesn’t allow me to retake classes where I already received a passing grade, so I’m no longer eligible for the CS major and have been told I need to switch to another major. The problem is, I don’t have any interest in the other majors Baruch offers.
To be completely honest, I also don’t really like Computer Science. I’ve struggled with coding and math, and I think a big part of why my grades have been so bad is because I’ve never felt interested in the subject like before. I just kept going because I was already so far into the degree.
Now college starts in about a week, and I feel like this decision was dropped on me out of nowhere.
I’m considering taking at least one semester off or drop out live my life stress free instead of choosing a random major just to stay enrolled. During that time, I want to seriously explore becoming something I’m actually interested in. I’m also considering whether I could eventually transfer to another college and pursue a completely different major if I decide I still want a degree.
I’m feeling really overwhelmed. Maybe this is a sign to finally pursue something I actually want.
What would you do in my situation?
