Decided it’d be a good idea to buy an El Camino with a blown up 231 and some minor collision damage. not so sure what I’m thinking, but I’m having fun, and that’s what matters.
All credit to my girlfriend she’s an aircraft structural mechanic and is actually competent, I just help her cut the windshield out. We hope we can save the flange but worse case she plans on fabricating a replacement. The last image is our progress so far, there’s still a ton of material to remove, but it’s an improvement.

So to preface I’ve never done any Motorsport stuff, but My girlfriend likes the idea of drifting, I like the idea of another project, We’ve been sitting on a set of small blocks ford mounts for a while, and for whatever reason we keep on buying shitty Volvos, I think you see where this is going. So if I were to go through the effort and build this hypothetical V8 Volvo would building it to drift completely nullify its ability to drag race? Let’s assume it’s manual, the rear diff is welded, and I have multiple sets of tires. I’m mostly looking to have fun so it doesn’t need to be that competitive in either.
A couple tangents the mounts were from another ford swapped Volvo. I’m thinking carbed 351w with some sort of manual mostly for cool factor and cheapness. As far as manuals go the obvious choice is a t5 but are there any other affordable alternatives?
