So I got him a month after he came out in Japan, and I’ve been hearing pretty mixed but positive-leaning reviews about him, but I’m guessing they are a vocal minority. On paper, this is the be-all-end-all standard Z Goku action figure today, so everyone had sky-high hopes for him to be the undisputed best SHF Goku. He did have some minor QC issues, but I DIYed my way out of them by gumming up the joints with superglue. Don’t get me wrong at all, he has S-tier playability, likeness, looks, accessibility, and value for money, but B-tier execution and build quality. I have high hopes for the upcoming Namek Goku, BlueKu, GodKu, BaseKu, and even Daima 4Ku. I think Bandai should at the VERY LEAST, make obvious improvements for GodKu and Namek Goku because they use completely unique sculpts. He gets…
Sculpt: 9/10. Looks amazing and very accurate, the gapping in the shins and extended abs looks bad.
Paint Job: 9/10. Nice shading in front, simple yet put-together, clean look. his belt shading difference looks odd.
Articulation: 8/10. Arm and shoulder articulation is amazing, ab crunch is great, neck articulation is odd, but works, knee articulation has decent range, but the shin/boot hinges are poorly executed.
Playability: 10/10. Do I even need to explain? He's flawed, but still VERY COOL and FUN.
Build quality: 7/10. Kind of a rushed feel, but still otherwise decent
Quality Control: 5/10. You can DIY out of most of them, but this is just worth weighing in.
Accessories/Value for money: 9/10. All for $38, but -1 point for the QC issues.
Accessibility: 10/10. Budget release!
Total Score: 8.3/10. Verdict: flawed and rushed, but still a pretty good figure.
