Prepping for mid-range P(Doom) scenario
Thought experiment & interested in your out of the box ideas.
Let’s assume for the sake of this conversation there are a range of scenarios AGI/ASI could cause: On one end of the spectrum it’s immediate and total extinction of the human species.
On the other it’s a utopia where disease is eradicated and we all have bots cleaning our homes while we lounge in the sun.
Somewhere in the middle is a situation that plays out like this:
AGI’s are misaligned and start to take action that is deemed a threat to humans. Either through government intervention and/or AI, the United States goes into a period of time where the internet is shut off. In this scenario I’d also like to propose that we are cut off from city water, company provided electricity and food distribution centers.
Things might be like this for several years.
Let’s also assume it takes weeks for us to turn into the worst versions of ourselves. People are hungry, scared and desperate. Violence is commonly used on folks who can’t defend themselves. People scavenge. There is no 911.
Folks are on their own. Communication is limited.
What steps do you take to survive for ~24 months in a world like this?
AND
If you are planning for a scenario like this right now, what steps would you in the coming months take to increase your chances of survival?
Some are obvious like the stockpiling of supplies, etc.
I’m interested more in creative ways to set up things like:
Information: Would you bother to start printing out a current record of your bank statements each month? How do you think we will go about ‘proving’ what our mortgages were, credit card bills, etc - if & when we are able to re-build society? What would you recommend printing out now?
Security: IMHO, it feels like a pod system much like with COVID would be ideal. People you trust living together and taking turns starting up at night to watch out for unwanted visitors. Extra people would also be helpful if you needed to venture out, there would always be someone at the home base. What is the ideal number of people in a pod?
Monetizing commodities: If money is meaningless, survival essentials would become what people want to trade/barter for. What do you image would be at the top of the value chain? Medicine? Fresh water?
What creative DIY systems could you put into place NOW and have ready for things like water systems, solar power on a small scale.
Other considerations/ideas?
Thanks to all.
