Bronze Disease Help
Reposting for visibility.
So, my Sicilian octopus has gotten bronze disease. I do not have photos of the initial symptoms, but I was fairly confident it was bronze disease, it was bright green and came off with light scraping.
I (mostly) followed the instructions online, I made a 5% solution of sodium sesquicarbonate and distilled water. After the first soak, I stripped the patina off, but most of the green was gone! Great news. I followed it up with more scraping, and soaking, and then I did a 3rd soak - “to be sure”.
I left this 3rd soak probably far longer than I needed to, maybe 2 or even 3 weeks? I got distracted, and it’s left in a corner of my kitchen.
When I finally checked on it, I’m presented with an almost a fully oxidized green coin. It “oxidized” while it was soaking in the sesquicarbonate. It looks almost like malachite. What happened here?? I didn’t use tap water at any points. Maybe to rinse out the containers? I was also using the same plastic container for each rinse. It’s currently soaking in a new 5% solution.
Questions: What happened here? Is there any way to recover this? What can I do? It’s much less attractive than it was before.
Yes, I know I messed up by not taking photos at every point in the chain. Feel free to chew me out. Pic 1 is current status, pic 2 and 3 are when I received it, before any BD.
