Modern Warfare 2019 was the last truly top-tier [COD], and it needs to come back — Change My Mind
Modern Warfare 2019 was the last truly top-tier Call of Duty, and it needs to come back.
I genuinely feel like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 was the closest thing we ever got to bringing back the feeling of the OG COD era — COD4, MW2, MW3, Black Ops 1, Black Ops 2 — but with modern graphics, modern gunplay, and a darker, more serious tone.
This game was not perfect, but it had something that most newer CODs are missing: soul.
The guns felt amazing. The sound design was insane. The campaign actually felt gritty and grounded. The movement was smooth without feeling completely ridiculous. The operators, weapons, maps, night vision missions, animations, reloads, and overall atmosphere felt like Infinity Ward actually cared about making COD feel military again.
To me, MW2019 was the last COD before everything started feeling overly fake, rushed, bloated, and built around bundles, skins, battle passes, Warzone integration, and yearly resets. It felt like the final bridge between the old-school COD era and modern gaming.
What I miss the most is not just the game itself — it is the feeling around it.
I miss hopping on with friends.
I miss the late-night Search and Destroy games.
I miss the trash talk.
I miss everyone being online.
I miss grinding guns and camos when it actually felt worth it.
I miss the lobbies.
I miss the sound of the guns.
I miss the modern warfare vibe.
I miss when COD felt like COD.
The OG CODs built the foundation, and MW2019 felt like the only newer game that respected that foundation while still moving forward. It was gritty, immersive, competitive, casual, cinematic, and fun all at the same time.
That is why I think this game deserves a real comeback. Not just hidden inside COD HQ. Not abandoned. Not replaced every year. It needs proper support, proper servers, proper updates, and a player base again.
Modern Warfare 2019 was the last time Call of Duty felt like it was truly back.
And honestly, I miss it.
What do you guys think? Was MW2019 the last great COD, or was there another one after it that actually hit the same way?
-And what’s crazy is the numbers prove there’s still a huge disconnect between what players actually love and what Activision keeps pushing.
At the time of writing this, Modern Warfare II is sitting around 9,900 players in-game on Steam, but its SteamDB review rating is only around 42%, with more negative reviews than positive reviews.
Meanwhile, Modern Warfare 2019 is sitting around only 1,700 players in-game, but it has a Mostly Positive rating with almost 79% positive reviews.
That says a lot.
MWII has more people online because it is newer, more pushed, and tied into the modern COD machine, but MW2019 is clearly the game people actually respected more. It had better atmosphere, better sound, better gunplay, better immersion, and it felt like the last COD that still had that OG soul.
That’s why it’s frustrating. The game with the better reputation, better player love, and more classic COD feeling is basically sitting abandoned, while the newer titles get pushed every year even when the community is clearly split or unhappy with them.
Modern Warfare 2019 deserves a comeback. Not buried. Not forgotten. Not treated like some old launcher menu item. It deserves proper support, clean matchmaking, server attention, and a real second life.
Because for a lot of us, MW2019 was not just another COD. It was the last time Call of Duty actually felt like Call of Duty.
lastly, how is this game $20 but the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ones are like 5 bucks??? that's saying something.
