Jadung Village (Nelong Valley) and Ongoing Homestay Construction
Located in Uttarkashi, around 16 km from Nelong Valley, Jadung village (3,834 m) was once home to the Jadh Bhotiya community. Even today, ruins of old houses can still be seen.
Currently, GMVN is building a few homestays in Jadung, which are expected to be completed by August. It is being said that these homestays may later be handed over to local residents, possibly on a lease basis.
Nelong Valley has been accessible to the public for the past few years, and visitors are required to obtain an Inner Line Permit to enter the valley. This year, Jadung has also been opened to tourists, and an Inner Line Permit is required there as well.
Both Jadung and Nelong are located within Gangotri National Park. Every year, the park usually remains closed from November 30 to April 1.
However, this year the government is planning to keep the valleys open during winters as well. During the winter season, entry will remain regulated, with only 20 vehicles and 100 tourists allowed inside the park per day.
Let's see how the local tourism department will preserve the valley and improve the livelihoods of Jadh bhotiyas.
