Upgrading a budget 1080p - 3.1 system

Upgrading a budget 1080p - 3.1 system

Here is my budget basement home theatre I am looking to upgrade. Ishares the space with a small gym setup to the right. Currently it includes:

-Epson Home Cinema 725HD

-110" diy screen (fabric from Amazon on an MDF frame)

-A cheap 5.1 Sony speaker system without the side speakers installed.

All in, probably cost $500 to setup a decade ago.

I want to upgrade to a 4k projector and the upgrade cascade is daunting! I understand a 4k projector means a 4k receiver which requires new speakers.

A couple questions:

-Is it worth it to attempt a 5.1.2 system in a room that's open on one side like this?

-Has anyone put their L/R speakers in the corner?

-Are the wider polk speaker tower worth it instead of the narrower towers?

Open to other comments/thoughts.

Floor leveling compound against existing walls in a basement

I have a basement with existing walls and carpet. I want to swap out the carpet and put in LVP. The floor has an area that slopes towards the wall and I understand I need to pour floor leveller before the LVP is installed to get a nice even surface.

Is it okay to install the floor leveler against the existing bottom plate of the wall? Not sure if I risk trapping moisture, but ripping out and reinstalling a wall is a big increase in the scope of the project. I will definitely cut back the drywall so its above the flooring.

Curious about your thoughts!
