Overwintering raised bed - in-situ cover?
I am new to gardening, and for the first time in my life I find myself approaching winter with plants that I need to keep alive. There are a couple of annuals that need binning, but most are either fully hardy (like the rose and heucheras) or semi-hardy (salvia amistad, lobelia, and the cordyline are all H3). The garden is north facing so that fence is the only part that gets sun during the winter months.
I have been considering making a removable cover that can go over the entire bed and keep everything in-situ, possibly with some kind of heating to keep the temperature just above zero if it gets particularly cold outside. Bubble wrap round the pots of the semi-hardy plants to further insulate them.
However, all that sounds good in theory but I have no idea whether it will work in practice so I thought I'd ask the good people of Reddit and see what suggestions and thoughts you had.
