Supplements

Just wondering if taking joint supplements (Turmeric extract, Glucosamine, Collagen) has helped any of my fellow sufferers? I’ve been on the 3 listed for about 6 months. I don’t see any improvement. My PC doctor said he believes “taking supplements is a placebo effect” and taking them is a waste of money short of certain ailments and those who don’t get enough nutrients from diet. Diet changes (which I’ve done) and exercise is the best we can do. So if anyone has a success story involving supplements, please do tell.

Disability

Anyone have osteoarthritis so bad that the doctor gives you a disability placard? Day after day I read and hear how those of us who have osteoarthritis are in pain with limited treatment options. So I was wondering, at what stage of OA or how bad off do you need to be in order for a doctor to limit driving or offers a disability placard? Im not asking about disability pay.

Shoulder OA

I already have OA in several joints throughout my body. Had shoulder pain periodically for years but now it’s daily (more so on busy/active days). I was cleaning a window a few weeks ago and when moving arm side to side it felt like the shoulder caught something and then clicked back to place. Sleeping on it is impossible. Lots of crackling when moving in overhead motion. So, I ask all of you with shoulder OA, what pains started out and how are you now?

DD and Spinal Stenosis

First off, I want to say thank you to nearly everyone on this sub. Always helpful answers and the feeling of community. It’s sucks we have OA but it’s nice to know we aren’t alone.
Now, question time: Those of you who have DD (degenerative disc disease) and spinal stenosis, how many times did you lose your footing or just had a dead leg before you started informing the doctor it was happening more often? I seem to have this issue maybe once a week. Doc said it’s to be expected as long as it’s not repeatedly happening or can’t control bowels.
