After chapter 48.4 I still don't get one thing. Where did the Hole itself come from?

The story says it was already there from the beginning. The locals discovered it by accident and started offering severed heads as sacrifices. Later, Tanaka finds out that what the Hole actually wanted was eyes. But since the heads were sacrificed with the eyes still in their sockets, the Hole was getting what it wanted anyway.

As I understand it, the villagers were sacrificing heads in the hope of getting rid of the constant disasters caused by the monsters and the corruption that emerged from the Hole, right?

But that means the Hole already existed before any of the sacrifices began. So where did it originally come from?
