[Basic Guide] DOAX:VV (Johren Version) on Linux — Super Simple!

All you need is some patience for the game download and install. Approximately 2 hours.

It will work on a fresh Proton-GE prefix without any modifications.

There is no need to modify the Wine prefix with additional DLL dependencies from Winetricks or change the .bat files with a text editor. Previous guides using these methods are therefore obsolete.

In this guide, we will do everything from within the Bottles UI.

Prerequisites

1. Johren Account
   VPN to Asia → Visit the DOAX:VV page → Download the Launcher

2. Launcher EXE downloaded
   Johren+Launcher+Setup+1.11.5.exe currently

3. Bottles
   Flatpak version installed

Install Instructions

Part 1 – Bottles GE-Proton Installation

1. Open Bottles.
2. Click the Hamburger menu, then Preferences, or press CTRL+,.
3. Expand the Proton-GE menu.
4. Click the Save icon to download and install ge-proton11-6.

Part 2 – Create the Bottle

1. In Bottles, click the + icon in the top-left, then select Create Bottle.
2. Name your bottle Johren (or anything you like).
3. Select Gaming. This includes everything needed, such as DXVK, etc.
4. For Runner, choose GE-Proton 11-6, the version we downloaded.
5. Click Create.

Part 3 – Installing the Johren Launcher

1. In your bottle, click Run Executable...
2. Browse to Johren+Launcher+Setup+1.11.5.exe and let it install using the default settings.
3. The Johren Launcher will open and should automatically appear under Programs.

If it doesn't appear, click Add Shortcuts → Browse, then navigate to:

drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Programs/johren-launcher/Johren Launcher.exe

Then click Add.

FYI: The user is steamuser because we are using Proton-GE. It will not be your actual Linux username.

Part 4 – Installing DOAX:VV and Playing

1. Log into the Johren Launcher. Under My Games, click Install on DOAX:VV, then click Install again.
2. Wait for the progress bar to complete. You should then see the DOAX:VV Launcher. Click Start Game.
3. It will begin downloading the game data (approximately 1 hour). Let it finish. The servers are slow.
4. A new window will appear saying Updating files.... This window will open and close multiple times. It may look like it is stuck in a loop, but it isn't. Do not close it. It will start over if you do.

Just leave it running for approximately 1 more hour.

The game is extracting files here:

drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/johren-launcher-contents/doaxvv/app/DX11_global_data/

You can watch this folder increase in size over time to confirm that it is still working.

Wait for the process to finish.

My completed installation was 27.3 GiB and 85,571 files.
