Can anyone explain Catania’s roughness
Currently I’m staying with my girlfriend in Catania, Sicily. After one day, we already very much noticed the roughness and garbage in the city. Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful in many ways and frankly we quite like it here. But it caught our interest in how and why it’s so trashy and rough in comparison to the rest of Italy.
The streets are cracked up, the traffic is crazy (mildly put) and the locals look like pirates. It is fascinating, really. Is it because of organised crime, Sicily being historically known for being poor? We’re really keen to know more about the (urban) history of what makes the modern Sicily.
