When they reject you for experience you already had
I had 4 interviews with a company, and they rejected me basically saying that it was a very difficult decision but they decided to go with candidates that had previous exposure to a marketing/agency environment.
This was an entry-level project coordinator role, and I’m somewhat shocked by this because I had a lot of experience in marketing through my previous position at a fast-paced consulting firm. Even recently, I just volunteered as a marketing assistant for a design show & helped a newcomer start her own business through marketing.
I gave several examples about this throughout my interviews, and at one point the manager said “You have a lot of experience in marketing, is this what you want to do instead?” This honestly made me think that I needed to speak less about experience in marketing and focus more on how other aspects of my experience aligns with being a project coordinator.
I know they’ve already made their decision & I’ll just keep focusing on my other interviews, but I’m wondering if I should correct what the recruiter said back to me?
