Conte - yes or no?

I'm pretty harsh on Conte because he seems like a total arsehole to me. Never had any kind of success in Europe, though very successful domestically.

If he were to take the Italy job, some questions:

  1. Do you like the appointment?

  2. What can we expect tactically?

  3. Will he pick Di Lorenzo and Politano as starters (this would kill me, kill me dead)

  4. What other players can we expect to be crucial to Conte's approach? Tonali seems an obvious one... and I'm hoping he caps Vergara and gives him creative responsibility. He SHOULD have a field day with guys like Kayode, Palestra, Ruggeri and Koleosho... but who knows. When all is said and done, if Chiesa can find a club and get playing time, he is a VERY Conte type player (very direct attacker).

  5. What CB pairing do you think Conte will pick? And how do players like Calafiori and Bastoni fit into his team? I could see him sticking with Buongiorno and one of Gabbia, Scalvini, Calafiori, Bastoni to partner. We also have Leoni recovering.

  6. Do you think he will a) do well in the next euros b) stay and qualify us for the WC?

over to you!

Do you know 3 people who *wouldn't* press the button?

OK, so a riff on the famous button dilemma...

A strange (pleasant) man knocks on your door and makes you an offer.

He is holding a box with a button on it. Ostensibly, whoever presses the button kills one random person. In exchange, the button presser 100% believes they will get $1 billion.

The twist is: it's not random.

YOU will die if they press the button.

If you can name three people who you know (family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances) who won't push the button, you get the $1 Billion.

You can't cut any deals in advance. Each person will believe that if they press the button a random person will die and they will get $1 Billion.

You can't name people you don't actually know like the Pope (unless you do know the pope). You must have met and spoken to this person on at least three occasions. The mysterious man will know if you are lying (he is magic) so you can't trick him in that sense.

You get to watch the strange man offer them the deal on a TV screen. They will believe his offer and not doubt what he says. Only their personal ethics and morals will be the deciding factor.

Do you know three people who wouldn't press the button? Do you take the deal?

Nothing is going to happen

The further away we get from the pain of the disaster of yet another world cup qualification failure, the less likely we'll see an equal and opposite reaction / revolution to address the problem.

We'll get a manager from the usual crop.

We'll get a few token initiatives that won't address the root cause (lack of youth playing senior football and lack of technical footballers, specifically creative players and attackers).

We'll grind through the nations league and a euro qualification and get knocked out in the round of 16.

Players who have repeatedly failed for us (cristante, bastoni, di marco, barella, mancini, politano) will get picked again.

Tell me I'm wrong and why I'm wrong.
